How bummed was I .. Well really. The cover was almost impossible to get off. It was the first time I tried to take it off, I have only had it for about 6 weeks. We will see what tesoro says. I'm am willing to pay for a new one. But we will see.

I use little velcro dots placed around my coil cover to hold it on, seems to work great for me and is easy on easy off when I'm cleaning my detector.

I have no need to hold it on its tighter than a jar or ragu.

it's easy to crack them, but every one I've ever seen is that way... From every brand.

I use a piece of wood just to lift the edges and slowly work your way around the cover edges... Takes a few minutes

That is a bummer Mike. I know the cover on my "V" is really tough to get off. I work it from the back end or heel of the coil and sloooooooowly move up and around to the toe, prying at the center as I go. I also know I'll break it sooner or later but Tesoro is a great company and I'm hoping they send me one no charge. They helped me out before so. . .

i use hot water, placing the coil in a shallow dish for a few minutes to allow the outer coil cover to expand and it practically falls off.blowfly,hh

Cool hot water trick I will try it myself! Everyone I have taken off have cracked also! I would just go buy one before I decided to pull it off.

I'm sure Tesoro will take care of you. Just give them a call. Sorry your coil cover snapped.

I think you've inspired me to make a video of the safest way to remove the 9X8 coil cover.
Have heard of many others complain of this.
I bought my Cibola used, and the cover had probably never been removed.
Spent 20 min with hot water, soap, wood, knives...still came off in like 7 pieces. That thing had become CEMENTED on. For the ones that haven't been taken off in a while...tough luck!
After getting the new one, I practiced several times with sliding it on and off, and now I try and remember to clean it before each hunt.
Like Mike says, starting from the heel is the ticket. Turn your unit upside down and fold the coil against the pole. By putting your thumbs in the center, you should be able to get some movement by pulling on the heel with fingertips/nails. By working slowly around to the sides, you should be able to slip a small knife blade (I use a paring knife) in between and slowly work around the outside, into the spokes.
Haven't cracked my replacement yet.

Hot water trick sounds like a good idea. I love the fact they are so tight, but I also hate it too. I will let you all know how it goes. Maybe I just won't take it off. Clean well put it on and then a small bead of silicone. But what if after time small leak and water gets in, that could be bad too.

I also use the hot water trick. It does two things, (a) makes the plastic coil cover expand and (b) temporarily makes the plastic softer and more flexible, all of which allows the cover to be removed easily using finger tips......no other tools needed !

After cleaning and replacing the cover, it will naturally cool and shrink for a good tight fit again, or if you are in a hurry, put the cover back on and run cold water over it.....you are good to go !

No Way I would use Hot Water, It will compromise the monolithic shielding. I just take mine off in a timely maner and clean it out. No wonder Tesoro service is swamped with waranty problems, when it is an owner caused problem. Jeeez Guys. Really!!!

Torn between to lovers feeling like a fool.... You crack me up.

Well guys here is the end result..understand I did break it.

Email string.

I have had my tesoro cibola for almost 2 months and it the greatest detector I have had. It's amazing. I was cleaning it today I had not yet taken off the scuff guard. I was going around it very slow and it was really hard to get off, any way I broke it.....I was really bummed because It's still new to me.

Just wondering if their is a preferred method to remove it. And also what could I do to get another one.

My serial number is 19xxxxx,, I sent my registration card in right away, I'm not sure this would be covered.

I did Mike, I was being sarcastic in my reply about using hotwater to get coil covers off. This whole thread is a bad pollck joke, like "how many pollocks does it take to change a light bulb" Three...two to turn the ladder and one to screw the light bulb in. "How many detectorists does it take to change a coil cover " too many with the wrong answers, like Hot water, geez, the coils are made out of plastic, if everybody did that, Tesoro sevice would be swamped. My story and sticking with it.

Every one around here including the dealer contends they break all the time. They are just really on tight, and great care needs to be taken in getting them off. Tesoro told me they do need to come off and be cleaned once and a while. Which is what I would think.
