Tried standard coin mode and found a ring

Today I went out and upon getting to the park realized I had forgotten my glasses. Since I wasn't going to see to well I tried something different. I ran the pro in standard coin mode which was a first for me (usually I run pro zero).
Headed off into a big open space I was imagining people playing football in the summer and hit a little sterling ring right off. I found some clad after that.
Has anyone else ever tried all the modes and what was your opinion/experience like. It seemed to null out some of the trash but the VDI was all over the place. I also didn't find one nickel. usually in pro mode I find quite a few.

Thats a nice little haul! :clapping:

To answer your question, No...I am somewhat reticent to try any other settings, I generally stay with the same format that I am comfortable with, (Pro Zero)...It takes me a long time to get half way good with a simple setting, and I'm scared to experiment...I do respect the hunters that try all the features and give us some feedback, like when and where they might come in handy...I am just no good at it though...Never have been and probably never will be...

Nice ring find. I have played with all the modes a little bit, but haven't found a reason yet for anything but Pro Zero. HH jim tn

Nice ring find.:clapping:

I like to experiment with the different AT Pro modes. I'm retired, and most of my hunts are just for the exercise, anyway. I did a nickels only hunt (40-60 only, Pro mode, coins, one notch higher on the sens.) one nice afternoon at our fairgrounds last Summer. I found two, in about as many hours, which is two more than I usually ever find. STD mode generally seems too noisy for most hunts. Mostly these days, I'm getting rich one clad cent at a time, but at 74 5/6, I've fended off knee and hip surgery so far. Dig everything you can't positively eliminate as trash. Every once in a while, you get to do the little happy dance.

Hi tyrooney

I have tried most of the settings on my AT Pro but I find myself returning back to Pro Zero (Wide Open). I like the way the AT Pro talks with that setting. As for anything in STD Mode, (with my machine anyways), I don't get the depth as I do in Pro Mode (lose a couple of inches) and the sounds in that mode (std) are a bit Buggy for me.

Just my input on the subject.

:)

I started off in Standard mode because I was clueless about the machine and this setting reminded me most of my old ACE 250. So it was understandable. As the summer progressed I experimented with the advice from the fellows here. I also started to become familiar with the machine itself. Despite having a few mechanical issues, I love this machine and feel that it gives great performance per cost. I now run close to max power, Pro Zero, or sometimes with some iron descrim. The machine rocks and is seriously versatile. I have had lazy days when my back is a pretzel and I've notched out everything below 80. Then I just go for silver and the one\two dollar coins. Rotting clad pennies are usually distinguishable,... usually.
