I turned the unit on and took out the battery and then turned it on after waiting 3 minutes and then returned unit to factory settings and did the sir test inside again and it knocked out the dime 1953 at 10" this is a three inch gain over the first test.I then went to my saved settings and retried them and they did good to.Now what gives here,befor I couldn't even get it to hit at 10" on a dime now it is a pretty good hit.
My batteries are fully charged too.what did I do so different,this is going to make me always wonder if this thing is hitting on all 8 cylinders maybe I need to do this step befor I go hunting.I forgot who told me about the battery thing but I tried it again,go figure.
I do feel alittle better,but wonder why it changes so much.

Rick;
This appearently resets the computer on the explorer.
This is like a cold boot and opposed to a restart on a home puter.
it is different that the factory reset that you do by holding the button down.
If that worked thats wonderful. now you have to get out and try it in the field.
maybe this has corrected all your problems.
wouldn't that be great? <IMG SRC="/forums/images/biggrin.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":D"> I know that i'm excited to see how it turns out.

was when I was having all that fasling problems....I have some good ideas going with this thing now I reread the book and seen a few post that gave me some Ideas plus I have played with it all day long doing different things and am starting to find the settings that work for me.

Rick;
sorry can't take credit for that one. have seen it posted here several times here though.

Rick;
I am so glad to see you back with a fresh outlook.
I know how discouraged and disillusioned you were. I hope this will give you another chance to explore the potential the explorer has. I was afraid that we had lost you for good.
Happy Hunting
Post some great finds

the part that I remember that was forgot and for the life of me I can't remember but it seems someone from new Jersey at a show was showed this and said to wait at least a minute befor reinstalling the battery pack.

Way to go Rick! Now get some of those old deep coins. GOOd hunting to you!

I tested mine right after I read your post. This year my detector has been acting a little erratic. I tried air testing to see how far it would ID a 52 rosie. Got about 6 to 7 inches and erratic. Did your procedure and the Explorer just settled right down 10 inches with a fast sweep locked right in. That was it for me I got the bug and went out for an hour. Found 79 cents mostly stinkin Lincolns. I found a trade token for Acton's Park 5 cents 8.5 inches deep good clear signal and ID. I looked all over the web the only thing I could find was a mention of the park from the mid 1800's. I wonder if it has any value. Doesn't really matter it's in the collection now. Also Found another possible token have it soaking now.

Hey,good job I went out and did pretty well to hit a 1911 at 7 inches and some other pennies and went to show a friend of mines dad the wheat and he asked me to hunt in his yard and demo for him so I did we dug some pennies and then I showed him how to operate this Tesoro Toltec II and he started out and got a hit asked me to come over and scan it with the Explorer and what do you think rang in my ears SILVER well I checked the pinpoint with the Tesoro and depth read 2" and sure enough about 1 1/2" a 1964 Rosie,he gave it to me so I guess it counts.I think the Explorer is acting better but I will nomore when I use it more this week.I tried a setting from Mike in Ohios web page off Charlie something write up and it is different but you can here the good stuff but I have to really pay attention I dug a few Iron Targets but I am understanding his settings better then any thus far.
Once again Great Job....

I tried the Toltec II thru it and could only get 4 1/2" on disc but could get it in all metal quite a difference.My love hate relationship continues...lol...

Rick:
Sounds like you may have this thing licked.
Coal cinder can be some of the toughest ground to detect in.
