Tried out my new smaller coil today.

Picked up the smaller Minelab coil this afternoon. Only had a couple hours of daylight left so I figured I would take it to one of my favorite trash filled hunted out parks. I was pretty impressed these finds were all 6+ inches and came in loud and clear. Excellant trash seperation the 1939 mercury dime had a rusty bottlecap very close to it in the hole. Can't wait to get back out with this coil.

Not bad. Like that V nickel. One of these days I'll find one.
The small coil is nice. Just can't cover as much ground. Loose a little depth but not much.

Butch thats the coil I used to nab that barber half dollar next to that big chunk of iron near the sidewalk that day at LP. The Minelab 8 (more like 7.25) is deadly, I dug a bunch of IH's at WP in areas we seemingly had scoured clean with the stock coil. Most were hiding near iron and trash.

Dont remind me, I just went over that spot where you got that half. Wish I had my Quattro back then. Oh well live and learn. Very nice coil, Now if it would only stop raining long enough to get out for more than an hour at a time.

hi i too have just bought a smaller coil ,mine is the 4.5x7 inch detech elliptical , what one have you got. andy

Hi Andy
I have the minelab 8" coil. It actually measures 7 1/4" across. It seems to be ok. It's not as deep as the stock coil, which is understandable. The trash seperation is good. But my preferance is still the stock coil. I guess because I'm so used to it. I don't have a problem taking it into junky areas at all. Did a couple tests in the trash and marked a few decent signals with the small coil then switched to the larger coil and the larger heard all but one. There were 5 targets in all, 4 were wheat pennies 5-6" in depth and the other was a clad dime at about 4 inches. When I get a chance I want to find some real deep targets with the 10.5" coil, 8+ inches, and then go back with the small coil and see if it will hear them. But all in all the small coil works fine I'm sure when I have as many hours on that one as I do on the 10.5 I'll be alot better with it.
