Tried out a couple of other DD coils,

Old California

Here are a few pictures with the ATX using Infinium coils, The smaller 3"X7" DD and the 10"X14" DD. Surprisingly the smaller 3"X7" works well in fact almost as deep as the 5"X10" DD infinium coil, has a slight edge on sensitivity over the 5"X10" DD but not as sensitive as the stock ATX coil. Still, A joy to use this smaller coil swings well light as a feather. Perfect coil for relic hunting in trashy areas or gold jewelry hunting or nugget hunting out in tough tight terrain.

The larger 10"X14" DD surprised me, With the ATX has allot more sensitivity over the infinium but that was to be expected only draw back is it's as heavy as the stock ATX coil. Can see possibilities using this larger DD in tougher soil that was my main reason for getting this coil some west coast ocean wet sand and fresh water lakes are extremely tough on Pi's, May loose some sensitivity but will gain some of it back with stability.

Anyway, Here's an idea for those that may consider making a similar shaft setup as this one. Allows usage of any of the Infinium DD coils, The cable still connects to the ATX. Overall, the shaft is
tough as a tank.

And many Thanks to Steve Herschbach for being the first to use infinium DD coils with the ATX and sharing this valuable information with us, And for your great ideas as well.

Thanks everyone for taking the time look, May hit an old 1820's site soon with the smaller DD.

I have that 3" x 5" hanging around here. I have only used it a couple of times in a river to help sort through trash and large targets.

Good luck on your next hunt.

Thanks John,

Good to see you're using the smaller coil, it has it's place especially in trashy areas or in areas with tough black sand.

I did hit an old adobe site with both the AT-Gold and ATX, Met up with a good friend so we hit a few old sites.

Nothing earth shattering but did get a couple of pre-1850's finds, At first was using the AT-Gold then switched to the ATX the area was laced with square nails every square foot was a constant iron grunt. Did a google search on the button it's an 1820-40 era (Imperial Standard) flat button, The Powder flask top was another treat and also bagged part of a thimble. My friend El bagged two cool pre-1850's buttons from here recently one of them a rare 1820's Phoenix button those are hard to find these are on every serious West Coast relic hunters bucket list good to see my buddy make the Phoenix button club.

With the ATX, Was using the smaller DD and glad I did it was the perfect coil for this trashy site. The ground here in some places of California are hot but this particular area really didn't need the ATX but decided to use it anyways for testing purposes, The ATX ran extremely smooth iron check was almost dead on did get fooled a few times but after several digs got to tell which signals to pass up.

Thanks again,

Don't have an Infinium anymore but do have the military Recon which has the same sensitivity as the Infinium, The ATX coil works on the Recon but the Recon lacks the horsepower to take full advantage of the ATX coils abilities.

I don't think Infinium users will see a benefit using an ATX coil on the Infinium, But ATX users will benefit using an Infinium DD coil on the ATX. Not by sensitivity but with swinging a lighter coil and detecting in trashy areas or in tight places, that's were I see the benefit of using the smaller Infinium DD with the ATX.
