Found this on YouTube a few days ago, and have hunted the fairgrounds twice using these settings.
Thank you, sscindercoop for the informative youtube post! I set up my Deus in the same order as was on the video seen here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzjVyki6qus
I set up this program in place of my old "goto" 4 kHz setting and then overwrote it once I tried it out for a few minutes.
Only thing I changed from the video was reactivity is "2" instead of "3" - which gets good depth on small targets - was really surprised to find a brass "Appel" jean rivet at 6" - this rivet is only about 1/3" across but hit confidently among the trash. Don't have pictures of anything since I'm in the middle of moving across town but will try to get some posted later on.
First thing I noticed about the settings was how quiet the machine was running. I usually carry one coin with me, usually a dime, to sometimes check the detector's max air depth on the target (old habit I guess). I wasn't getting the usual chatter and goofy chirps while detecting and initially thought I turned it off somehow. Then I came across a target and it really sang out...
Coins sound clearer and background chatter is almost completely eliminated with these settings - this is why in the beginning I almost gave up on the fairgrounds. I haven't air tested my usual lot of coins to compare with other programs, but it seems sscindercoop's settings are vastly superior in terms of iffy targets vs clear targets vs deep targets. This is most likely my new "goto" program considering how well Deus performs in the trash.
4 kHz is known for "signal smearing"; but with these settings signals are much more precise and seem to recover a tad quicker amongst multiple targets. This may be all in my head, but I challenge you to give the program a try in your most difficult environments! You be the judge!
Tried it out last night for 2 hours - I dug almost exclusively nothing but aluminum screw caps, but they sounded really clear and sharp. Also dug 4 copper memorials and one zincoln, and these targets sounded even crisper than the screw caps. All targets were 1" to 7" deep, and the deeper targets definitely sounded off with more gusto than before.
But the real question remained: How did this program handle bottlecaps??? Well, the last two hunts I didn't dig a single one, but I know I passed over a few of them. Bottlecaps sound more "chopped" with these settings, while a coin signal is unmistakable. The caps still indicate around "90-91" but the audio is nothing you'd want to dig.
I passed a Morgan dollar under the coil - and it starts to "chop out" since notch is "93-99", but still has a good audio quality to the signal. Silver half dollars...no question on a "dig" or "pass"...that signal is clear and sweet!
What made the biggest difference for me was deep targets: Anything that was large and deep was much easier to identify using the audio than before. Small targets seemed to "pop" a little better, not sure why...but fringe targets - coin-sized targets deeper than 7" - were what sold it for me. It was easier for me to decide to "dig" or "pass" on those fringe targets, which I know will help in more "normal" detecting areas (areas that haven't seen a bulldozer LOL).
Will have to revisit the fairgrounds in the worst trash areas and see how this program works. Have been trying some different areas of the fairgrounds and have been finding a few Civil War era relics, but this program may be what I need to sift through the edges of the property that have the worst trash contamination - am hoping to find new hotspots at that site!
Thanks again Coop!
