The 10" coil on my Excal is shot and the headphones are held together with binder twine, so it's time for some modifications.
I'm thinking a 15" W.O.T from Coiltek and the 12.5" Sunray coil with waterproof connectors for interchangeability.
The headphones I'm leaning towards the Gray Ghost Underwater set with a waterproof connection as well but maybe a hard connection would be better.

What have you had good luck with when it come tring your xcal?

bda, you are asking for issues using the waterproof connectors. A mate of mine in Fla., went that route and got water in the unit. Minelab made it right, but COULD have voided his warranty. They are going to leak, bad idea. I think you will regret going large coil in the mine anyway. Control is going to be a bear!

i even like the 8" better hard wired! but id go with the Grey Ghost head phones with the Ike plug,not the in-line connection.

I have 2 excals 1 with a Wot hard wired and I had Minelab install an ike lite con the same one for the batts for my headphones which are gray ghost . Although the wot is a great coil and has great coverage I really like my excal2 with the 10" tornado and I am thinking of getting rid of the wot and getting a tornado I would not use cons I tried it and got allot of faulting and its a other way for water to get in. I also tried the 12 Sunray and it was not as good as the wot made allot of nosie and was not good in black sand I love the s-8 and x-8 Hope this helps HH RonC

Never used anything but the 8" coil so I can't tell you about the coil situation. I've heard the WOT is a "wonderful thang." lol

Never given me a lick of problems and the sound is a whole event better than the originals.

This is my dive format. I made the handle for the unit. Minelabs system did not suit my needs so I built this one using stainless and my TIG. If you want one, let me know. I will send one off to you.

You are indeed the King of the Va. Beach Pirates and I respect your opinion. You are Absolutely Correct that this headstrong (BDA) pirate is going to follow his own mind and go with what he thinks is best for him. This doesn't diminish in anyway my respect for your opinion on what works for you in Va. Beach but I have to try and make it work in Bermuda, My Way.
All things considered I think that the 15" WOT may be manageable in fair conditions here because I have a barrier reef that surrounds the island and knocks down the waves most of the time. (that and I can use the work out since I'm not allowed to do physical labour amymore - by law)[stupid bda immigration]
I'm going to go with the Ikelite connectors so I can swap out to the 10" Tornado coil when conditions are too rough.
Gray Ghosts are a Must!

I love the mods on the Excal Mikie! I have been out of the water for several years and Had just a few here now with the Excal in Maryland
