i now carry a pair of small fiskars hand pruners in my back pocket for those little tree roots, it a lot quicker than sawing them with the gator. cut both ends and pull the root out of the way,and it makes digging easier.

I carry a drywall/keyhole saw in my possibles bag. Works good, too.

Great Idea, I have got to get a pair!!!! I hate roots!!!:rage:

I hate them too. Right after I got my Ace I detected my own backyard. I live in a 5 year old house, which is one of the oldest of the neighborhood. The area was once a cow pasture. There is an old pecan tree in my back yard. Besides nails near the house, this was the only area where I found metal. On one side of the tree I got a couple of mixed signals so I dug. After having to go under one of the larger roots, I pulled up a barb from a barbed wire fence. I went to the other side of the tree and it sounded like the slot machine floor at the Sheriton! I dug and so far I pulled out about eight 6" strips of barbed wire. It was a pain getting around the tree roots, and all I got was a bunch of rusty fence!
