Maybe there was something wrong with that coin. But I don't put green coins in the peroxide bath anymore.

Wow thats crazy!!! Thanks for the warning. I did damage like that with my first wheat cent I found, but I used the salt and vinager method, it works great on nickels but it kills copper!!!!

That has happened to me a few times. The peroxide eats away the crud and leaves the copper alone. Sometimes the crud is the image of the coin. The crud is always hiding the true coin. I have had coins that I could hardly see the image. After a many peroxide baths, I have had the same coin look like new. I will do the peroxide. I want to see what I have. If the coin was no good, the peroxide will reveal it. No good is no good. I have some pretty IH's. I could hardly see the image in this IH. It was covered in thick green crud. This was the one I found this month. I showed it as I do most of my coin before it was totally cleaned. I'm too lazy to take a picture of it now, It is put away in my book. After the peroxide bath, I soaked it for a few days in mineral oil and it looks great. I loved handing it to people, so they could see it. They couldn't believe how good shape it was in after a 112 years. That never would have happened if I hadn't cleaned it up.
