Is anyone keeping a search ratio?

time to treasure

trash to treasure

coin ratio

ring ratio

Magic, I never did ratios but I did keep track of everything I found last year. I averaged around 10 hrs. a week hunting, some weeks 20 hrs. some 0. Here is the list of targets. I spent 60% of that time in waist deep water,30% wet sand and 10% in dry sand. Some days are all trash others you find multiple keepers.

1824- pull tabs ( 112 in one 8 hr. day)
328- bottle caps
2- cell phones
17 -sunglasses
17lb. of lead (misc. sizes)
$ 186.57 in clad ( less than .04 cent an hour, but the fun was priceless)
5- tokens
2- mortuary tags
3 -dog tags
1- lawn chair
1- grinding stone
1- model A hub cap
44- silver rings
5- silver charms
5- silver necklaces
2- gold necklaces
17- silver earrings
6- gold earrings
12 - Gold Rings
1- Titanium ring
1- tungsten carbide ring
5 cig. lighters
13- keys
1- umbrella
3- pocket knives
1- trash can lid
27- hot wheels cars
never kept track of trash pieces, can slaw , foil, but I am sure it was another 700 to 800 more targets.

OK , by now you think I am nuts, I had a trash can full of pieces of cans , whole cans and other junk.I have all this stuff in a big box in my garage so I can show my friends what to expect if they want to become treasure hunters. My guess would be around 50 to 60 pieces of junk for every keeper. If you hunt the high dollar beaches of south Fl. I am sure it gets allot better. When I retired I tried to put all that math stuff in the back of my head, so sorry no ratios. HH

That works, you get an overall picture of what it takes to find those little treasure keepers

Wow papa Joe. I have never kept a detailed record. That is impressive. I would hate to see what I do most of the time. but I have not found fewer than 36 gold rings a season. Highest was 68. I am out to beat that record!!

Only thing I can see missing in your totals are fishing lures!!

So far this year I've hunted 205.5 hours and dug 3900 coins.
.01 --- 2049 22 keys
.05 --- 426 1 14K chain 10.3g
.10 --- 677 6 gold rings one 18K diamond ring was appraised at 2200.00
.25 --- 499 10 silver rings
1.00 --- 161 4 silver chains the clad total so far is 560.60
2.00 --- 75 11 junk rings
Have filled one bucket with pulltabs and nails, beer caps, and assorted pieces weight is 20 pounds.

Have hunted on 64 days this year. Dan

New York, 1997-1998
For every 20 coins one ring
For every 5 rings one gold
Therefore every 100 coins = 1 gold ring.

That's ratio mattockman not radio

Scuba, I had a couple fishing lures , rubber worms with hooks, fish hooks, two rods and reels, plus other stuff, but the list was getting crazy so I just cut it off. It is unbelievable what you can find in the water, I never get more than chest deep in the lakes, who knows what is further out. OH!! yea you know what is out there and congrats. on all your finds. HH
