Treasure Hunt Help!!!

Ok. All you Experts out there. I am going to my first treasure hunt the first weekend in August and I need all the tips I can get on how to set up for maximum speed and results in this kind of event. It will be an all silver hunt. I have the stock coil and the X-8 plus the X-1 probe. Which coil should I use Ect. Ect. I normally hunt in discrim mode, auto, smart screen, fast mode, normal sounds. I've never had the good fortune to hunt with one of you guys or anyone else so I'm sure I've learned lots of bad habits.
Thanks in advance!!

let me start off by saying i love my xs.
but..... you really might do better by getting your xlt out of the closet or borrowing a different machine. the pin pointing is a little more time consuming then you want for a hunt. there will also be many dimes on their side and that is a problem with all machines.the first 4 or 5 minutes can be the most important of the hunt so don't waste anymore time on those first few minutes digging then possible. you will see alot differrent brands of machines i think there are more tesoros then anything.some of those other hunters are good it's all about speed and fast accurant pinpointing. i have seen guys use the xs and do ok but i've seen the guys with the tesoros do better. i use my xlt. what are you going to? good luck...

I had the XLT and it dosen't come close to the explorer. And if you are haveing a problem pin pointing I sujest you to buy the X1-probe it help me out alot.yes I will agree the pin pointing on the explorer does take some getting use to but I will put up with the pin pionting any day over more depth that i get out of the explorer. And I know what kind of depth the XLT gets.

What I believe mike is refering to is in a planted hunt situation. Where the coins are shallow and Mostly on edge. Although the Exp (My personal Main Machine) is the most awsome on the planet for Depth. It has a few shortcomings in the speed and accuracy of the pinpointing department. JMHO The suggestion to use a lightweight and fast pinpointing machine like Tesoro is for the Speed at which these hunts are moving at. The faster the better. So I will agree with Mike. This would only be in a planted hunt situation tho. <IMG SRC="/forums/images/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":)">

i do have a x-1 . did i mistake his question he is going to a sponsered hunt by a club? if so then there is no deep targets dimes and tokens mostly. the xs is a deeper hitting machine i use it daily.i own both xlt and explorer. i use my explorer......but for a seeded hunt where targets are 2or three inches deep you are better of with a different machine.depth has little to do with a club hunt. a rep. at treasure week from outdoor outfitters openly admitted that it was not a competition machine. dealers of minelab even use other machines when they hunt.i know more then on explorer owner who leaves it in the truck and grabs his competition machine. again i love my explorer even if i don't use it at a competition hunt.

I shouldn't post this as all you guys will be there and clean my clock! I only have the Explorer so I'll have to do what I can. I do have the X-1 to help.
It is a planted hunt and a big one!
