Here is a link of the story that shows him with the detector on a video. Can anyone id the detector? http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/10546960.stm

Sure looks like a Minelab XS with a display cover.

That would ssoooo ROCK.

We probably have no Roman coins in the USA but it certainly is possible that a similar find might be made in early Spanish or early English coinage. Early Spanish in Florida for sure and English anywhere in the East.. So my questions are ------ -
QUESTION 1.
WHAT DO YOU THINK THE OUTCOME OF SUCH A FIND REPORTED TO US AUTHORITIES MIGHT BE.?
(I'LL LEAVE IT TO YOU TO PICK WHICH AUTHORITIES). Feds, State, Local.
QUESTION 2.
WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

I have raised the question of Florida authorities and their approach to amateur detectorist recovering artifacts or old coins before on this forum and others. I am no fan. Lets see what you think. Don in NW Florida.

I would probably try and take it over to England so I would have a chance of getting half in my life time. Finding such a quanity would be tough to keep quiet, but I believe I would have to try. State and Federal leans, lawyers, land owners and the time involved to go through the courts, my grandchildren probably wouldn't see any of it if the courts did rule that I could keep it. HH jim tn
