I will be going to Melbourne in a few weeks and have herd different stories about md in the sand and surf. So say it illegal any where others say is ok only up to the high tide line. I would like to work the beaches at the high end hotels and also the water for some shipwreck relics and the Sebastian Inlet State Park. I will be using a AT Pro.
Any info about this area will be helpful.

Visit the McClarty State Treasure museum on A1A just south of the Sebastian Inlet then go over to the mainland in the town of Sebastian and visit the Mel Fisher museum.

Here is one thread:

basically,............... its legal to hunt from the low tide mark at low tide to the base of the dunes. you may not hunt in the water!!!!!! good luck!

Thanks for all the input. Now that I am totally confused on whether its legal to MD on the beaches in Melbourne and in the water in Melbourne I think I' ll just take my chances. I do want to know is is legal to MD in Sebastian Inlet State Park.

On the Sebastian inlet Oceanside beach you can MD. You can use the parking lot off A1A south of the inlet for free parking. About a mile south is the McClarty state treasure museum, $2 admission. Another mile south is Ambersands public beach access . These are wreck site beaches but a lot of renourished sand is on the beach and a lot of aluminum clad. Further south public beach access points are Treasure Shores public beach, Golden Sands public beach, Wabasso beach, Sea Grape Trail, Turtle Trail beach access, etc.
Wear yourself out. The 1715 fleet is all along the treasure coast.

MDMike,
You might want to consider the West coast of FL or Ft. Lauderdale because
our Treasure Coast beaches have been terrible this year.
