traveling with excal

recout

New member
I am going from NJ to Hawaii on a trip in a few months. I plan on shipping my sand scoop via FedEx or ups... I am not sure what i should do with the excal. I don't want to buy a travel shaft and travel scoop and pack it. I'm not sure if i want to bring it on as a carry on and pack the shaft. I would wrap it in bubble wrap and use peanuts and ship it.I am going with my wife and 3 kids and hands with be full on the plane, thats why i was thinking about shipping it. any ideas??

If it were me , I'd buy one of the three piece shafts , break your detector down , and put it all in a backpack or other carry on. I wouldn't ship it. If your luck is anything like mine , it would get held up in customs for your entire vacation , or just never show up at all. Have a good vacation !

Take the shaft on board as a walking stick, you can buy one of those rubber things to go the end as they fit quiet nicely (I am sure you can manage to limp for an hour or two). Coil and controls in carry on bags.

As you are being generous and kind enough to let your wife and 3 kids come on your metal detecting trip with you surely its only fair that they carry the equipment....

The three piece travel shaft by Plugger is well worth the money and it is the best one I've seen. I often fly to Florida and take my Excalibur with me. I always put it in my carry on luggage. I've had too many times where my luggage was lost and never to be seen again. I don't need to go through the BS that the airlines put you through to make a claim, especially when the claim is over 1k.

My carryon..And I have checked it the last few times, not sure about the rules for Batteries, you may have to call or Maybe someone can confirm it's ok of late................Shaft made from 2 canes, bought at GoodWill, think it was 10 dollars..

when i was in florida in june i took mine on with my carryon. when i went thru security they where a little wierd about the detector and did not know what to think about it. i took and eastern and western treasure mag and showed them what i was doing with it. it help alot when i went thru security at that airport. the batteries i had to buy when i got to florida
