traveling with a detector

Anyone had an issues with security at the airport regarding traveling with MD. I will like to know what would be the worse case could happen? I am planning to detect in Europe and will put the MD in my luggage but not in a hand carrying bag.
thank you

If it's packed in the checked luggage, you shouldn't have any troubles. Make sure the batteries are removed first.

Due to the expense of my machines, I often pack the rod and carry the control box and coil in my carryon. I haven't had any problems so far (knock on wood).

I carry on the main parts and put scoop and other stuff in my checked baggage with no problems. I also put my manuals with my carry on in case there is a question. Good luck and HH :minelab:

Just in case, make sure that it is insured. There has been instances where the TSA or other workers have stolen property and if they know that it is worth a little bit of money, you may never see the detector again. I would recommend contacting your insurance agent and ask about having the detector insured. For jsut a few bucks a year, your homeowners policy should be able to cover it.

I used to take my Excalibur with me when I flew to Florida. But the last few times, when they scanned my carry on, they pulled it aside and tore it apart and started asking all kinds of questions as if I was a terrorist. So I just don't fly any more.

I usually travel light, so no checked bags for me. Are the md rods a problem through security?
