I'm getting trash on solid quater signals along with constant iron and hot rock signals. Is there anyway to deal with this ? I'm useing a 6x10 DD coil Disc on .7 and sens. at 8

How's your battery situation?

You may have to test a different coil and see if your still getting erratic behavior. If that fixes it then it may be that the 6x10 is malfunctioning.

Ground balancing is also a very big factor with VDI's being accurate. LOCK the GB after you balance it, it will keep hotrocks from causing it to change.

But I would guess you already revealed the issue. You mentioned you are getting constant iron and hotrock signals, it could be that the spot is infested with such and you might need to move to a clean spot to test more. If you already know it is full of hot rocks, you will most likely get ALOT of false high tones. This is the norm in hot rocks and is why so many of us eventually throw our hands up and move to a cleaner spot. If you want to stick it out and keep hunting there, Remember to dig CONSISTANT signals. Hot rocks are known to give inconsistant high tones, They seem to be like silver worms that move around and never give that high tone from the very same spot each time. When you swing the coil, swing slow and consistant without moving forward and stare at the ground where it sounds off with the high tone. With each pass watch to see that it gives the SAME high tone at the SAME spot. You should notice pretty quickly that it sounds off at a different spot with each pass(hotrock). To be more accurate yet, narrow your swing to a very small spot like 6 inches back and forth to avoid over lapping into other targets. If it is hotrocks, that short 6 inch swing will let you know if it is a consistant target or not. Yes, you will get quarter signals even when there is only hotrocks. At least that is my experience with hotrocks. The only trick I have found useful is determining whether the target seems to stay in one spot or if it seems to move around and dig only targets that stay put. I have found 2 silver dimes in hotrocks, both shallow but HARD to distinguish from the hotrocks. In fact, it may have been more determination from telling myself that I was the only detectorist dumb enough to keep hunting there! If your problem is hotrocks, good luck and don't let them burn you out.

The 6 x 10 is working fine. Aaron what your post said is exactly what i been thinking myself. I kept thinking if i have ground balanced it correctly because there is no way of telling when your in coin and jewlery mode or relic for that matter.
