I have a cz-5 and hunt a old park that every once in a while gives up something nice. The problem with this site is that the first liquor store in own town was within a block of this park and the winos left their calling cards with wine caps everywhere, there also a lot of scrap iron and the park is still holding events. What would be the best approach to this park?I'm thinging about first to hit it with discrimnation at coins only and sens @ 6.

A lower sens. of 3-4 will give you less masking and a sens. of 6 thru 8 will give you superior depth. Might also want to considers a 5 inch coil..If you cherry pick at coins all still may be bothered by wine caps..(whole ones, bent ones, crushed ones and certain types may or may not come in coins all) they usually cover a bigger area and with practice you can usually tell them..Certainly a plan if your after silver coins...some parks are just tough to hunt so take your time...has to be goodies left with all the trash keeping other detectorists away..

Hey Jim Houston, Sounds like two OLD city parks, that I was in this morning for 3 1/2hrs. Boy, I don't know what was worse, a whole lotta IRON, or large proximity of multiple targets. Mineralization wasn't bad, just alot of IRON/Wine/Beer Caps without the BEER! I think I got my first piece of GOLD today, a broken piece of Gold Looking Chain, but won't know for sure, until I clean it up. Time will tell! HH, NamVetLesTreasureSeeker

I know from the same type of thing you are talking about and that trash can be a nuisance .
I think the 5 inch coil is the best approach to such a place. It can reach down there pretty deep and the stock coil simply cannot get it done like that 5 incher. With a lot of iron around , the 5 inch coil will combat masking a zillion times better then the stock coil. If you have one you will find yourself having it on your detector a lot more then the 8 incher if you have a lot of places with modern trash and iron in them. With the 8 incher you will need to be patient and do your searches slow and from different angles of approach to try and sneak past or in between some of the iron to get a hit on any good stuff and also you may get bouncers around a lot of trash that you would get solid locks without some much trash around. You will get solid hits with the 5 inchers and in same place over same targets have iffy bouncers with the 8 inch coil.

I'm on a limited income,so maybe one day I will have one if I find enought clad!

I just hunted such a park with my CZ3D and a 5" coil that seemed to seperate a few bottle caps/screw on caps. I put the 5" combination up and tried the CZ6A with a 10.5" coil. Started digging good targets again. Maybe someone can do the details.

Jim,
Until you can get a 5" coil try this, I go to an old park where I live it has been there since the early 1900's and is still used today. If there is a woods nearby or outside of the park go in the woods, as long as it is part of the park. I did this and found many mercury dimes, wheat pennies and even a couple of barbers. Most people tend to go where the mowed grass is, not me I head right for the woods. If I do go in the mowed part I use my 5" , It has amazing depth and seperation, I pulled a 1936 buff at 5.5" Anyway good Luck to you.

I have gone into the woods quite often in the past and have been quite successful. Lately the parks around here we hunt are starting to get hard to get good clear signals. So, I have started doing along the edges of roads, etc. at these parks where you dig a ton of trash. It has been paying off because no one else seems to want to dig the trash for some good coins... <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)"> I did this at a park we had almost given up on about 2 weeks ago. I came away with a 1906 barber dime, 1939 Merc, 4 IHs, quite a few wheaties and a token. I dug some bolts, etc. that were mixed in but it really wasn't too bad. My buddy also dug a barber when we were there. Sometimes it pays to dig some trash. I have to try some more coils at the edge of the road. HH!

Excellent approach fellows last year after beating my brains out in the field where an old amusement park once stood I ventured into the woods and had my best day last year 8 sil's..Barder dime and quarter, walking half, 4 mercs and a roosie..So indeed go where the other guys don't venture and it may pay off..To top it off previous silvers from this area were 8-12 inches and these were all several inches deep at best...

Yeah!,but I heard recently that a 5" coil will damage the machine? I have a cz-5 is this true?

That sounds so silly I can't imagine a normal 5 inch coil designed by Fisher to operate on fisher detectors to do damage to the detector.
