Trashy area.

Tomorrow I want to work a patch of land I know is full of trash (I have found a roman coin and loom weights on the edge of the trashy ground so I think there could be more amongst the trash.) I have tried adjusting my settings but there is so much trash all the noises drive me nuts lol. Can anyone recommend settings for heavily trashed area please, Is using iron mask best and at what level? etc etc. Any help on settings and advice greatly appreciated.

You didn't say where your hunting but I assume it must be England or something if your finding Roman coins. This posses a problem for us here as you also have lots of coins that would fall into the range we seldom search.
Go to the 8" or smaller coil to help sort out the trash. Use iron mask at -6 and ferrous sounds that way iron will sound off with low tones and silver or bronze will be high. You could also try blacking out everything and then learning a few of the coins you would expect to find. A trick we use here is to only opening up the upper right corner about 1/2" square to only accept silver and copper targets. The treshold will usually be gone in this case due to all the discriminated targets but if you work real slow good targets will come thru.
Good luck, These types of areas are really testing.

Thanks Cladmaster. I am in the UK. I will try your recommendations. One thing I have always been concerned with is missing good targets when in trashy areas with the machine discriminating out trash and the threshold gone. If I go real slow as you have said will signals still come through even though the detector is discriminating trash out and preventing threshold hum? Or is it just a case of hit and miss and down to luck?

Sorry for the last post.
Other thing you can do is get down the gain to 1. In this way you can have a diference between the targets close to the surface and the ones that are deepest.
One more thing I do is to get down the thershold to 5 or 4 and get only the sound of the target, in this way I do not become crazy with all the noise of the unwanted targets mixed with the humm of the threshold.
Actually today I was working in this kind of area with successful, I found 2 dimes and 1 penny (USA coins) HA HA HA, big success don't you think?
It was in Mexico.
Good Luck !!

Yes but they may not lock on as easy. Be alert and work it and the targets will come thru and lock but it is slow going as you have to stop over each suspected target and wiggle the coil back and forth to see if it will lock. Also your depth won't be as great.
