Hypothetically, if you had to hunt in high trash with a stock XS, without a smaller coil or a probe how would you go about it? What settings and method woulod you use?

From what I have learned from the Explorer I would run iron mask at -8 to -12 if this area had a lot of rusty iron, if it is more of other junk I might go to a disc pattern and check signal by switching back and forth. I would run fast recovery and turn down the sensitivity and may run as low as 10 semi auto. Then I would have to go very slow and listen close to the signals and check them from more than one way and if it is heavy trash you will miss some targets i am sure as they will be mask by the junk. On pinpointing I think it would have to be done in disc and done by using the tip of the coil and going around the target to center it, in pinpoint I think you would hear too many targets.
I feel the main thing is going real slow and listening and not having the sensititivy too high.

so you want to hunt in trash? smart move. here,s what i do. 1st thing detect in audio 1 and set recovery to fast. next notch out pull tabs and crown caps. you are going to have to dig some screw caps ,but it will pay off. forget nickels you won,t get any like this. ok if you get any pull tabs after a notch out. go to advance edit and drag the little black box around to made sure you get all pull tab singals notched out. oh yes you need to do a noise can. and 1 very inportant thing is to turn the sens down to where the machine runs stable. what ever number that is do it! i mean 15 is not to low if thats what it takes. ok here we go . start detecting. go real slow and i mean slow! dig any thing that gives a solid audio both ways no matter what the cross hairs say. some of that silver is not deep at all! its just being masked out or nulled out. i know from doing this your better off getting rid of every pull sound. we are talking a real trashy site here correct? when you get a good hit before you dig it. flip over to iron mask see if you can still hear the good hit? about 80% of the time you won,t hear it in iron mask. the pull tabs mask out the dimes while wheat cents are bigger and still ring out. take the null outs over the mask outs. man you are going to find some silver! they will cry out loud! and you won,t beleive how easy it is . but the audio 1 does take some getting used to. today i dug 3 silver 15 wheats and a silver ring , in 3 hours . the only trash i got was screw caps . been hitting this same place for a month now and still finding plenty. other people with xs have hit it hard ,but they are not detecting like i,am. hope this helps
