"Trash" talking!, Bill_S Trashy Park Prog - strategy?

GotSilver?

New member
Hey guys! Happy Fathers Day to the dads! So, I've been running - like many of you - Bill_S 's Trashy Park Program in the appropriate areas - along with 5" Excelerator coil. (also messing with Goes4Ever's TTF setup a little too). So I need some help from you all that run these types of trash setups please! So I guess my biggest question is that I feel like I keep looking for perfect 12-44's and 12-47's with these setups before digging. Don't think that's a good plan though. Given the trash and the way it can false and bounce signals around, is your basic strategy to hear a high tone and , if it's CO is "repeating" - I.e 07-44, 09-44, 10-44, 13-44, etc, then dig it - even though it's not a clean 'no brainer' 12-44??? I've been pulling a few silvers but I'm concerned I'm passing some nice finds up looking for perfect signals. As always, all of your experience and tips are sooooo helpful for me and others. Thanks for your help all.....

I can't remember the last old coin that gave me a PERFECT signal, the deeper the coin the bouncier the signals. The MORE I OPEN my disc screen the deeper items I find, and my nickel count for one goes way up! Like the 3 mercs I found the other day, one had a nail in the hole I believe the reading was like 21-44 and that was only one way, nulled the other ways....and two others had pulltabs right beside them, if I had a super tight disc pattern i PROMISE you I would have missed them. Perfect signals just do NOT exist in the spots where I hunt.

Thanks for the thoughts. So is your strategy to, aside from pattern/mode, just locate all good sounding and repeatable mid to high CO #'s and that answers the great debate of "to dig or not to dig?". Also I'm sure it's how much pull-tab punishment you can take in a day? Thanks for your input Terry!!!

I know you cannot always judge an items age by depth.......BUT...if your familiar with a park or certain area and know MOST old coins, wheats, silver etc....are all at 6" and deeper, then you really need to investigate ALL signals at that depth and deeper, very carefully. Do NOT wait for a perfect signal.

When searching for gold (which isn't that much) I'll only dig solid numbers that have a small pinpoint area. Just trying to eliminate some more variables. So far it's been trash - but "ring sized" trash. Too easy to go for second place silver than first place gold.

So much depends on conditions. I like the Bill_S pattern in spots that are so trashy that my ears can't stand it. That and a small coil and I can fish targets out of the soup. If the place isn't so bad then I like hunting with a mostly open screen. Middling ground I use a combined coin, jewelry screen. There seems to be a lot of variables that can skew numbers. Today we were hunting mineral spring fed lakes and the numbers were off a bit and it seemed to play havoc with pinpointing. everything always turned up in the sidewall for two different machines. I try for good sounding signals as much as I can.

I listen for repeating high tone, and depth. I don't rely too much on the numbers. I've dug dimes at 1-50 and also 12-39. The more I use this etrac, the more I keep opening up the desc. Dug a half dime at 4 inches 12-41 a few months ago. I would normally pass that up since it is identical ID as a screw cap. Man am I glad I dug it! Also dug funny sounding pocket spills with buffalo nickels, wheat pennies, and silver. It sounded like junk but was deep enough to make me curious.

I gave-up on this pattern recently, after a guy I was hunting with found a silver 3 cent Trime with an Ace 250 after I had already scanned the area with my E-TRAC. This pattern DOES NOT allow for silver signals on the 12-30 line, and because of this I missed out on a super great find. Is it still a great pattern? Yes, but for new ETRAC owners ONLY. If you want to find stuff like Trimes and other affected silvers, you have to hunt with a more open patter, slower, and with a lot of patience. It will be noisy, but your ear will help you decide whether or not to dig, and if you can't hear it, you can't find it. :(

You have to make your own pattern. Hunt an area with someone elses standards and see what you get... then go back to that area with open discrimination and find a whole new world. It's all about the time you have at an area. Re-hunt and re-hunt. No spot is hunted out until you say it is! Grid it out!
