Trash question

I need some advice about a site that is so full of metal trash it's driving me crazy. Switched from the stock coil to the 5 X 8 and now probably will switch to the sniper coil on the At/Pro which I hate to do due to the size of this lot. Slowed my swing way down, but trash over load is driving me nuts and I know there has to be some good targets here. Used to be the old coca cola bottling plant and it was torn down a few months ago to clear this lot for a new building. There is no way I could remove all the iron and other trash to make finding any deep targets easier due to the sheer volume of metal on this lot and my physical condition. Heavy rain predicted today, Wednesday and Thursday and hoping that will help out but sure could use some tips from more experienced members of this forum. This lot is about 2 acres and there is a large oak tree in the lot next to where the coke plant used to be and seems like they heaped all their junk metal around this tree as I was positive it would yield some old coins or at least some clad.

I would set my discrimination to a point where everything is notched out but the numbers where silver/copper read. That should help! The notching feature can be a real asset!

What John said. And if that site isn't made for a sniper, then there isn't any. Pick out a room sized area clean it out.

Personally, I would tackle it in Pro Zero with Sen a couple of bars down from max with the 5 x 8 coil and listen carefully for those co-located high tone tic's and whimpers peaking through the iron grunts and mid tones. Good luck, however you approach it. HH jim tn

I hunt really trashy sites a lot. Turn your sensitivity wayyyy down. I hunt these places with only 2 or 3 bars showing on the sensitivity meter. What this does is help focus the signal from the coil more on what is directly beneath it , reduces interference from targets out beyond the coils edge. Almost the same as focusing the beam of a flashlight ( an adjustable one ) from a wide beam that lights a huge swath down to a concentrated beam. This is VERY effective in very trashy areas , letting the coil get in between multiple targets better. Dont worry about possible depth loss with a really low sensitivity setting , the coil is only going to "see " the shallowest target under it anyway , you dont have much chance at the deeper targets until all the shallow targets are removed.

And Chris's summation is about as good as you can get. Good job Ohio.

Thanks again everybody. I got some great information and hope to try this Saturday. We have flooding in some of our neighboring counties and I wish I could have made it down to the river because they lowered the river about 5 feet, but its steadily coming back up now. Rain thru this week and that's good because this trashy site will be soaked and hopefully very conductive.

Yes but it with the rain making the soil wet it can be too conductive for you.
When it's dried out it will be easier to sniff out the targets from the junk stuff.
Wet ground does help with depth and such as the HALO from the good coin targets being in the ground for a length of time gets better and helps the detectors see them easier but also the junk too.
