Trash Hole Hunt With AT Pro

RLOH

Well-known member
Last year I stumbled on to a very small spot where I have found 6 Barber coins and 10 Indians. This spot is only 10 foot by 25 foot and borders a large metal building. The trash in this small spot is as bad as any spot I have ever hunted. I have had three different detectors in here with the last being my Explorer 11 about a month ago. I have hunted it left to right, up to down, at every angle I could. Today I was walking by this place on my way to another part of the grounds when I decided to walk with the flat part of the stock At coil as close to the metal building as I could get it. I found a clad dime within a couple of seconds so I moved over a couple of feet and detected the entire length of the 25 foot section. There is a coating of limestone over the original grey, hard clay and my next signal was an 81 showing six inches. The AT was grunting iron every six inches and this signal peeped through the grunts. Out comes a gray 1911 Barber dime from about six inches. Wow, I thought I had this small section cleaned out, but I had not used an At Pro here so I rehunted the entire small section. Found a shield nickel that is badly corroded, a 1883 Indian, and two green wheats. The iron in this place is staggering and I was having trouble isolating the high peeps with the big coil. I had the iron disc at 25, sens at 3/4, pro mode-zero. This detector is a killer in this environment because you can barely creep the coil and pick out the high tones between the iron grunts. I am buying the smaller coil as soon as it is available. Sunday I hunted a place with very little trash, but the coins are deep(6to 8 inches). I also used my F5 and Explorer in this place. I took the AT Pro to the exact place where I had success in the past. I did not expect much, but again, I was surprised. I found five wheats and a silver roosie and all were around 8 inches deep. Good signals so I have no doubt the AT can go deeper. The AT did give me some fits when I encountered rusty bottle caps. They banged hard with low 80's numbers. I tried upping the iron disc, I tried lifting the coil, I tried different angles, and everything I tried failed. When I hit the iron audio button, the signal remained a clear high tone. I got frustrated and left that section. Not complaining. This detector is an almost perfect detector. R.L.

Im with you on your opinion of the AT. Ive had mine going on a year soon, and it still suprises me. It can be swung as slow as you want in absolute trash and pick out the good stuff,it is amazing for a 15kz detector on high conductive objects, it has handled every soil type I have been to, including the gold-fields with ease (Im in Aus) , has good depth as you mentioned, and that modulating analogue tone just has so much information. Then on top of everything else to have that real neat blunted nose 11 inch DD coil as stock standard at the price it sells for is just the icing on the cake........I dont have much opportunity to do water hunting so until caught in the rain its waterproofing isnt something I give much thought to, but it did happen today.

The new bottle caps grunt and groan but thos old rusty iron caps are the worst...They come in load and clear as quarters (and who ain't gonna dig that)...

Another one here with the rusty bottle cap headache, I've just resigned myself to it. Some will give you a hint with the iron audio on but many come up quarters for me!

I've got the smaller double D reserved for me as soon as my dealer get's one. I've got a spot in the woods that I think it will be easier to swing it in. Can't wait to see how it works!!!

NIce to see you've learned to play the AT platform..........it likes to sloooow dance........as far as the bottle tops momma told me life wasn't gonna be all a bed of roses...........
