Transition to a X70

Hightone

New member
Well, after years of using a Tesoro Deleon, I have made a trade for my first Minelab product. The X70 seems like a whole new world over the turn on and go Deleon. Plus, I think the retune speed of the X70 is slower and I will have to use the PP button (something I didn't have on the Deleon, and didn't really need). But it will be interesting to see what the X70 can do. I do have a Fisher F5, which I love to hunt with.

I do have one question. Will I need to check and possibly get a firmware update to get the full advantages of this unit?

Thanks

Dan

Have not heard of any new firm ware updates needed Dan. I've had mine for 2 years and never seen or heard of any.....

Nothing to update, don't need to use the pinpoint unless you want to, and the clock speed of the 70 and Deleon is similar.

Welcome to the site! Congrats on the 70. I am sure you will get used to it. Good lluck to you and happy hunting, Beale.

Dan, I used a Cortes for quite a while, and compared to the DeLeon, you definitely will be experiencing a moderate learning curve. Don't be discouraged, and read the Faq-Faqs here, lots of good info. Also don't be to eager to start buying accessory coils. The stock 7.5 concentric is a really good all around coil, and IMHO, as deep as any. Good luck, and have fun...........

I sold my Vaquero for my X-70 and have never looked back. Don't worry about the pinpointing, It'll come to you. Very seldom do I use that button. Good Luck, look forward to your posts.

Yup there was a firmware upgrade it's call the XT-705.

Learn the 70 it's a good unit.

Good Luck

I was told, at the shop where I bought my 705, that the tesoros have some of the fastest recovery rates on the market. It is my understanding that that is why they are used so much in compatition hunts. But Dick (the owner) still hunts with a Minelab. I love the 705. The learning curve was steep for me.

....and owning an F5 has helped in a partial transition. Until I have the unit in hand, I can only speculate about signal ID and changing to Prospect Mode for sizing and a few other little things. The FAQFAQ is well written and laid out, and my gratitude goes out to all that made the investment in time to bring a lot of useful information to the foreground. The coils that come with the unit are the 3khz 9", the 5x10" 18.75khz as well as the stock 7.5khz 9". I have a place in my arsenal for all of them. With the F5 having the 11" DD, 5" DD and it's stock 10" elliptical concentric, with both detectors I have a pretty much full range of detecting options.

Life is good.

Dan
