I'm looking for a carry case for the MXT of solid construction , lined with styrofoam and capable of taking a beating in the back of a truck , but i also want , cheap . I've been to Whites site and a few others and there is no problem getting what i want for $150.00 and up . I was thinking maybe a gun case but the design of the MXT due to the width of the control box seems to preclude that . I'm now wondering about a camera case , the kind that is wide and has removable precut one inch squares of styrofoam . Any ideas ? 50 bucks , tops . My wife suggested a Rubbermaid bin from Walmart lined with foam but i don't know if i like that idea . What does everyone else use for rough use or is everyone wealthy and can afford a $150.00 to $200.00 box ?

I Cover mine with a thick towel for the ride home. I have a locking utility box on back of my truck and it really doesnt have too much room to move around. I do think about it though, there has to be an easy way to get more protection.

Try some 1/4" plywood ,1" x 4" pine or wider ,hinges ,etc. Make a long narrow box like a suitcase or gun case and line both halves with soft foam. Use a razor blade or ? to shape the foam. Attach the foam with spray adhesive ,waterproof the wood and use some rubber between the halves to seal them. Just an idea.

I remember someone telling about using a hard plastic archery case. They are rigid plastic, lined with foam and latches tight. I know I have seen them at WalMart for under $25. They look like they would hold the detector without taking it clear apart, as well as extra space for additional coils and batteries etc. Might give it a thought.

This is Johnny B's Setup. Actually it can hold even a bit more if you bother to pack it right. The only problem is the bow case only comes with the bottom foam piece so you'll have to go to a mattress or packing shop to get one you can cut for the top half. An electric knife cuts the foam as clean as can be!
I use mine for my DFX and Shelley uses hers for her MXT. The MXT has an even wider display screen yet still fits fine.
It can be strapped along the built-in strap grooves on the outside (for flying) in addition to the two padlock ports provided on the clasps.
I can put in:
- Detector (DFX or MXT)
- 9.5 Stock coil on rod
- 6x10 DD coil on rod
- Shooter DD coil on rod
- BigFoot coil on rod
- Hunting pouch and belt
- Leche digger
- Electronic PinPointer
- Two 2-way Radios
- Rechargeable NiCad Battery
- 16 AA batteries
- 2 9 volt batteries
- Detector Manual (NOTE always have this in the case if you fly - it explains what's in the case to non-English speakers)
Sometimes, if we only take the two detectors and just one coil each we can put both detectors in the same case with our pouches, diggers, probes etc. You're just replaces all the extra coils and rods with the extra detector.
The case is made up of hard molded plastic and comes in either black or a green dominant camoflage. Cost is $25 - $38. That ought to save you more than a pocket full of clad! The model # (from Plano) is #1111 for the Black case (if I'm not mistaken).
This is how they advertise it:

The rugged and compact Plano Protector case is built extremely durable to ensure that your expensive bow, arrows, and accessories receive the lasting, reliable protection they deserve. The lockable, airline-approved case features a comfortable molded-in handle, secure latches, thick wall construction with pillar supports and high-density foam inserts. Velcro

Great Idea! Does the control box fit in the case comfortably? HH

Here's my Transit Box. It's a Golf Bag Hardcase. Bought it at K-Mart for $39 and hot glued foam eggcrate in the places the machines rest in the box. I also riveted 2 sided velcro in a few places on both lids to hold the detectors firmly in place and to hold the accessories I need to carry. It works just fine and cost less than $50!
