Training Dealers

I just talked with a White's dealer. He said he has been asked/told to attend a class on the V3.
The time: 8 AM
Place: Los Angeles, CA
Date?? Soon ;-)

That is all well and good.
There are White's dealers that can teach others because they get out and use the detectors they sell.
People that live near this type of dealer are very lucky indeed!
Then there are the many small shops that sell detectors as a side line and dont hunt at all.
What can White's teach a dealer that dont get out and use the product, in one day at a seminar?

There are the forums full of friendly, knowledgeable, experienced, people willing to share what they learned in their field experiences, and most dont even sell detectors.

How many new, inexperienced hobbyists are gonna buy a new $1600 V3 as their first detector? or even their second?
The new high dollar machines are selling to EXPERIENCED users who usually know more about how to use them than the dealers that are selling them.
You have a core of really bright people that have done their homework and truly understand how detectors work.
They have a good idea which features and specs will help them best find what they are looking for.
Around them are a much larger group of people that will buy a certain detector because that is what so and so uses and he always finds the good stuff.
Then there are others that always want the latest and greatest technology can offer and change detectors like they change their clothes.

There is nothing wrong with this ... they are all a great bunch of guys ... and it would be better if White's let the market alone as far as who can sell what to whom. Restricting dealers as to what, when, and where, they can sell is a BAD idea.

I'm not a dealer but I WANNA GO!!!

This training is a great idea, but for some of the small dealers it is not economically feasible. The dealer closest to me isn't even interested. Nor is he interested in knowing the machines in depth. He just sells them at MSRP(firm) plus 5% Wisconsin sales tax. There is another dealer about 30 miles from me that is quite knowledgeable, but that is because he and his staff are into the sport. Oddly enough, I can get a much better price from him. Regardless, this would be one class I would love to attend. I would imagine there will be lots of "hands on" too. Can't wait to try one out for myself.

It shouldn't be too long and more dealers will have classes on this machine. I've been helping quite a few folks get going with it and it really isn't that much different than say the DFX ...in principles. (This site alone has helped me immeasurably and will evolve into a "class room" shortly I'd expect.) Sounds like that 30 miles would be a good investment.

Now a "Classroom" is what I'm talkin' 'bout!

A local club might be an option.
Most will do presentations at their meetings.
But then ... not everyone has a club and a local V3 expert available.
For mass education a good video is hard to beat.
Maybe White's could sponsor a field trip explaining the settings and fine tunings for different environments.
They have done a fine job so far with videos explaining the operation of the V3.

Perhaps Andy or some of the others will produce a nice video later on.
I am sure there are books in the works right now.
