I don't remember finding one of these before, but I do like them. THis one sounded good in the ground, though a bit broken. When I got it our, I couldn't find it. I eventueally saw it laying on the ground and was wondering what it was as it is a bit larger than a penny. Not sure why the signal was lost on the surface, must have been something under it that masked it.

Also found my 1st rosie of the year a '46. think that's the 1st year. Again a broken tone, but suspected coin. I was sure hopin' for a hidden seated dime.

very nice find cool

Trade tokens are even more interesting to me than coins. Youd be amazed at how many of these things are out there... especially from the 30,s. Much like the tax tokens produced by various states, businesses saw this as a way of getting their names out there.... kind of like GREEN stamps and coupons. Even now at auctions they sell pretty good... just because people havent seen many of them.

Nice finds - there was a Jacob Schilp in Ulster Co., NY from 1900-1920. Are you near there? He was a hotel proprietor in 1920.

yup. that's exactly where I am..good find as i googled it but could not locate this. what hotel did he run?

I checked the on line maverick token index and your token isn't listed. Unfortunately there is no text on NY trade tokens either. You might be able to better pinpoint this person by checking directories from the period (1900-1920) at your local library or historical society. Sometimes they can do this over the phone if they are not too busy. HH. PS (DougF - nice job in tracking this person down)

This info from the US census - doesn't have the name of the hotel. He lives at 119 Moore St. in Kingston. Moore is a guess - handwriting is hard to read. Of course, he probably doesn't live at the hotel, so it may be nearby. I have online access to the Census, and with an uncommon name like this it only takes three minutes or so to find him.
