Trade token & gold

Well it has been awhile since I have had the chance to go out & hunt so today I took a few hours & hit an old mining site. The site dates back to the early 1900 & has a lot of trash around so hunting was hard. Not much to show for the time other than an old ink bottle and a trade token marked J.H. Chapman good for 10 cents Lund Utah. After hunting this site I went home & mopped & waxed the floors for the wife, then went out for an hour just looking for change. So off to a park I went, the first signal I got was a bleep & the vdi showed 8. I don't know why I dug it other than it sounded different. I first probed with a screw driver & felt nothing so I put the pin pointer in the hole & got a hit. I opened up the hole a little and pulled out a 14k gold ring. This makes the fifth gold ring I have found and the only one that came in at vdi of 8 all of the other were 20. As soon as I get my sd card back from a friend I will post some pictures.

I don't know if it makes any difference but this ring was white gold & the others I have found were yellow gold. Has anyone out there found a difference in white & yellow gold being that the rings are about the same size. that is the only thing I can think of that would make adifference in the vdi.

White gold.......Yahoo!!!!!! I've never found one and seems like you don't see many found either. Couldn't tell you anything about the different VDI. Hmm. Maybe someone will help us all out here. PLEASE!!! Also the token sounds interesting. Tokens are fun to research. Great going Buda. I'll be waiting for a few pictures. Hope you get your card back soon. HH, Nancy

Here are a few pics of the last few finds hope you enjoy. The bracelets are titanium & bling the bottle is an old ink bottle

Thanks Bula. Very nice finds and do you know what the stone is in the ring? I've never found a bracelet. Maybe someday. Thanks again and HH, Nancy

The picture came out a little yellow but the ring is white gold & the stone us a very clear diamond 1/4 to 1/3 ct

The difference in white yellow 14kt gold are the alloys in the gold. White gold may have approximately 58% gold with a 42% mixture of one or more of the following nickel, silver, palladium, and zinc in the alloy (zinc would be a minor amount). The yellow gold has a mixture 42% copper and zinc (zinc being a minor amount) and 58% gold.

So since almost half of the composition of white gold and yellow gold is different it seems reasonable to see different VDI numbers.

Note: Nickel is used less in white gold today because it is an irritant to many peoples skin.
