Tracking the wild stroller...

My mornings in the Summer go like this: Up super early, read the forums, drink a pot of coffee and head for the beach before sunup...A guy has to attempt to beat the beachrake to track the strollers and coolers and towel prints...

Theres a long stretch of beach, along the edge of the road, theres trashcans spaced about 100yards apart, so all a guy has to do is pull over at each one, jump out and have a quick look inside to see what kind of activity went on the day before...also, a guy can see the stroller and cooler tracks, also can see any sandcastles, their size, etc. to determine how long the Bipeds we hunt were at this location...

Once a guy has assessed all this data, he can then turn around and hit it with a plan! And thats how I read and hunt this stretch of beach. After a few years, a fellow sort of knows the hotspots based upon the water, wind direction and strength, and air temp where things may be....those trashcans hold some awesome tells though..pizza boxes and coffee cups on top mean late evening activity...(nobody eats pizza or drinks coffee in the middle of the day!).

So today I hit a fresh stroller track from the day before, followed it down, and popped this 925 chain/cross right at Sun-up...the clasp was hooked, so I know the person attempted to not lose it and put it on a towel, or in a shoe...you can bet I searched the area for the corresponding ring with no luck...[attachment 296714 aug814.jpg]

The sand has all sorts of sign on it early, even where a whole flock of seagulls were, you know somebody was there feeding them...footprints, their size and shape means something, a guy can tell a womans track from a mans...and it helps a guy think about the targets that may be there, even cigarette butts and what brand bottlecaps tell something about the hominids that were here...right where a person drops trow, generally 15-20yds inland on a flatish area, hopping around on one foot, theres always clad, and its fresh and clean and ready to spend!...

Anyway, as the sun comes up, a fellow can see the deeper water cuts, sandbars that have moved a bit, and there I got these other junk rings and discolored clad..[attachment 296715 aug814-2.jpg]
By noon, the slate is wiped clean by the sandrakes and wind like an etch-a-sketch, and a guy has to start all over the next morning...Its really satisfying when we track down a person and find a dated drop from 100yrs ago, but its equally challenging to grab a trophy that is still warm and just dropped yesterday..maybe tougher...so thats it...lots of empty sand, a guy has to figure out some way to hit it fast and effectively..so I track strollers and coolers, and look for changes in the water...

Good how to sand hunting post Mud and some nice finds. Good on the sterling and maybe the next hunt one of the junk rings will be gold. :beers: HH jim tn

Oh yeah Jimmy, paying my dues...the gold is there, its all about timing, sand movement, and weather as you know...I do my best wet work in the Fall..still, regarding gold, I'm way behind this season so far, only 2 AU items this year, and not even 10gr yet...no fault of the Pro..just hammering away in poor conditions...got some deep old nickles, so I'm on the sign , just gonna punch on through and maybe get lucky, hunting deeper for the big mens rings is what its gonna take..Water is up nearly 16" from last year, all a guy needs is one good day on one good cut...

Mud, what are your settings/mode when in the water? I am heading for some sand and water shortly myself. Typically, I run in pro zero and no disc and dig every grunt, buzz, tic and, well, you get the point. HH jim tn

That's a gorgeous silver necklace and pendant.

Great post Mud:thumbup: And a sweet sweet chain. Ever since reading over your very valuable posts I've tried to incorporate more predator/prey thinking while hunting, a big thank you brother :please:

fantastic detective skills Mud and I love the silver cross and chain! It is a beauty!

Excellent tracking skills. You should write a book on "HOW TO MAKE MILLIONS CHASING STROLLERS ON THE BEACH." Just think how much $$$ you could make mining the miners.

Nice finds by the way!

Thanks guys...I just got back in. I went back into that deep hole where those 3 junk rings came out of and found a wheat penny, so that is a good cut..but the water temp dropped pretty good and I got a bit hypothermic....I also found 2 one dollar bills laying there on the bottom, my first paper score for the year! I looked around for the whole brick! Good Luck Gentlemen!

Mud, you're a great hunter. you can hunt whatever you want, you're good. :clapping:
nice cross, still hunting friend, gold awaits

Yeah Mud, those cash bricks are out there, just got to have cat like reflexes to get 'em:crazy:[attachment 296798 cash_cats_19.jpg]

LORD have mercy! That cat looks EXACTLY like my dearly departed 'Squirt'...she was 15yrs old and died a natural death a few years back in my arms..oldest cat i ever had..raised her from a kit...

Funny, those wads of bills mean nothing compared to that cat pic!...OK, a bit of a lie, still, whatever it is, I'm crying here for some reason! Maybe money is allergic to me? Its been avoiding me all my life!

Way to go Mud! And as usual, thanks for another informative post. I wish I could hunt, but way too much happening in life right now. Keep on keepin' on and you'll be on a gold roll.....I'm sure of it!!

Mud, you are one smart son of a beachcomber!

" I wish I could hunt, but way too much happening in life right now." Two words... priorities!
Mr. dgruff, I don't know what you wasted your first three on, but one should have been time to hunt.
I am just saying... :detecting:
