My mornings in the Summer go like this: Up super early, read the forums, drink a pot of coffee and head for the beach before sunup...A guy has to attempt to beat the beachrake to track the strollers and coolers and towel prints...
Theres a long stretch of beach, along the edge of the road, theres trashcans spaced about 100yards apart, so all a guy has to do is pull over at each one, jump out and have a quick look inside to see what kind of activity went on the day before...also, a guy can see the stroller and cooler tracks, also can see any sandcastles, their size, etc. to determine how long the Bipeds we hunt were at this location...
Once a guy has assessed all this data, he can then turn around and hit it with a plan! And thats how I read and hunt this stretch of beach. After a few years, a fellow sort of knows the hotspots based upon the water, wind direction and strength, and air temp where things may be....those trashcans hold some awesome tells though..pizza boxes and coffee cups on top mean late evening activity...(nobody eats pizza or drinks coffee in the middle of the day!).
So today I hit a fresh stroller track from the day before, followed it down, and popped this 925 chain/cross right at Sun-up...the clasp was hooked, so I know the person attempted to not lose it and put it on a towel, or in a shoe...you can bet I searched the area for the corresponding ring with no luck...[attachment 296714 aug814.jpg]
The sand has all sorts of sign on it early, even where a whole flock of seagulls were, you know somebody was there feeding them...footprints, their size and shape means something, a guy can tell a womans track from a mans...and it helps a guy think about the targets that may be there, even cigarette butts and what brand bottlecaps tell something about the hominids that were here...right where a person drops trow, generally 15-20yds inland on a flatish area, hopping around on one foot, theres always clad, and its fresh and clean and ready to spend!...
Anyway, as the sun comes up, a fellow can see the deeper water cuts, sandbars that have moved a bit, and there I got these other junk rings and discolored clad..[attachment 296715 aug814-2.jpg]
By noon, the slate is wiped clean by the sandrakes and wind like an etch-a-sketch, and a guy has to start all over the next morning...Its really satisfying when we track down a person and find a dated drop from 100yrs ago, but its equally challenging to grab a trophy that is still warm and just dropped yesterday..maybe tougher...so thats it...lots of empty sand, a guy has to figure out some way to hit it fast and effectively..so I track strollers and coolers, and look for changes in the water...
