Tracker IV tone mode vs coin lying on edge

It seems like my Tracker IV can't detect a coin lying on edge in tone mode. In air test as well as outdoor MD, it will ignore coins with such an angle. Why ? Does anyone ever experienced this before. ? That problems can be overcome by choosing the all-metal mode but I like so much "working" in tone mode, so what can I do ?

In the video for the Pioneer 505 it states that the detectors are designed to sense coins that are laying flat. It might be because of the larger surface area or " magnetic halo " the units are presented with when coins are positioned in this way. I don't know why your detector would sense the coin in all metal mode and ignore it in tone mode. This is an interesting question though.

Hello Suninyourhand

Thank you for your reply on that matter, Again in the air test, the Tracker IV (in tone mode) will not detect any coins on the edge but only on the flat surface. It will in all metal mode. I almost missed a big canadian $2 coin which is about 28 millimeters in diameter that was lying on the edge in a park sandbox. I could see it visually because it was not completely buried in the sand, but the Tracker IV ignored it (I was in tone mode). I don't believe all buried coins lay flat in the ground and from that opinion, I doubt very much that the tone mode will detect them all. I'm getting an ACE 250 soon and will compare both machines on that matter.

Enjoy your sunday
Pierre
