Well today is the last day for me to report to work due to the shut down.It has been a painful past 6 weeks, but I am ready to go or so I think.I have been employed there for 24 years 7 months to the day.Hired and started on the 23rd of the month last day 23rd of the month.(The # 23 is a current movie) oh sh^t I may have a haunting.Well any way I know I will shed some tears with some fine folks today but my life will go on.Next week I hope to do a bunch of relic hunting and scouting as I am relaxing. The following week I will start my new job that I have lined up.

Take care, John

.... Go ahead an epoxy that mean old supervisors chair to the floor, glue desk drawers shut, pry off all the keyboard J,O,H,and N's around the plant, put a live goose in someone's locker, ... then hug all the folks who helped you over all the years.

Good luck with your hunting days off and with your new job.

I went thru a similar thing in 2003-4 ... the owner of the company I had worked for almost 20 years died, and the relatives down sized the company and let most everyone go.
We couldn't afford to stay living where we were so we moved to Missouri to be closer to my wifes relatives and where housing was much more affordable. Unfortunately jobs have been difficult to get since I am over 50.... :nopity:
However... I would have never guessed that we would survive over 2 years working low paying short term jobs .... but we have done just find...:) I don't have a new car anymore... and we have to watch our pennies ... but I sure enjoy life more.

the point of all this is :
Stay positive and know that everything will work out.......... and it will !

Boy, the things some guys do to get a week off.
You are hard core. ;)

Hope you settle into the new job easily and meet some good people.

After 22 years working for IP our mill shut down--They had finally cracked down on Drinking on the job--But the spreader man still had pints in there lockers SO I put them all in One bottle and set it on the lunchroom table--When the plant manager saw it he tried his d@####est to find out who's bottle it was--Of course he never did because no one but ME knew who did it--For the first 20 years no one cared how much people drank on the job--we would set up bars in box cars and have a zillion bottles to drink--The Foreman always came around at Christmas offering us a drink--I think I was the only one who never touched liquor in that mill--I wanted to keep my fingers and I did--There was some very good people there and I miss them--That was 28 years ago and a lot have passed through the gates of Heaven and Hell since then!

I made the best of it all day.Had a bunch of laughs with the people. We all had stories of the things we had done in the past.I shed some tears with the ones I have grown to love like my family members.I had a good chat with the owner as he was always good to me,he then presented me with a nice plaque to remember my time spent with the company.I then tried to sneak out like a little b*tch only to find my vehicle redecorated. The guys had hung a bunch of stuff off of it and filled it with all kinds of stuff. As they watch I dug a safe hole so I could drive and drove up the hill with things falling of of it.

Well enough of the sob stories it is time to move on.

Any way It is now time to dig some relics.

I remember back a few years when I got laid off. I just bought a house andjust got married. Had arthritis and knee problems. Now I'm in school toward a new future, no knee problems and things are pretty good. Change is good and is what you make of it.
