Tough day at the garage!!! ........

Why is it that they try to take advantage of you? First on the phone they told me it would be one of two problems. Either A. = $170, or
B. = $300.
Then you take it in, they him haw all day trying to find the problem.
Then they call and the first thing the guy says is you are going to hate me in about 30 seconds! Now that sounds good! He says it will be C. = $1100. Of course I talked them out of that in a hurry. He said we can do B. for $600+ So I ask why did B. Cost only $300 on the phone? He says I am not sure who you talked with, I will get back with you. He calls back a little later says we can do B. for $300.

Now why is it the prices changed? Was he afraid I was going to take my business elsewhere? I think he was hoping I would have said go ahead and fix it at the $1100.

It is no different than when that little old lady walks in and they sell her that car for $40,000. And the next guy comes in and buys it for $33,000. Why do they have to take advantage of that lady?
Grinds my gears!!! GRRRRRR!!!

Oh yeah and they said the $300 fix might not take care of my troubles!

there is a state agency that monitors garages and auto repairs in Michigan and you can file a complaint with them if they fail to follow the rules (and these guys sound like they are a little shady - maybe the season to be greedy).

Will see if I can find the info on that for you in case you might have need of it.

My Dad's truck was sold to him over priced and his monthly payments were way too high. He still owes over $17,000 on it and its a 2005 Chevy Colorado (S-10) with over 100,000 miles on it. The finance company would not give him the option of buying coverage to pay off on his death so it will have to go back to the finance company because I sure can't afford it. He doesn't have enough life insurance to pay for it let alone all the other outstanding bills he has out there.

One would have thought that the insurance company would want the extra money for that payoff coverage but then what they would have taken in is less than the $17,000 so they told him he couldn't get the coverage to pay it off. Insurance is a scam. Always has been and always will be.

Will pray that the cost of repairs will be covered under God's plan of financial support to His children and it won't cost as much as they predicted.

Will pray you get a lot of snow your way to make money pushing the snow around. God bless you and yours Mike.

Oh yeah if you go to the Secretary of State Office they can give you a 'package' with the complaint form. Its best to know your rights and if you happen to have that in hand when you go talk to the garage they might see you are prepared and knowledgeable of what they can and can't get away with. They may just back off on trying to pick your pocket.

a car or a truck and you get the insurance to fix you car at a set cost they will not let you get the one that will pay of your car if you were to die. you can do both

sound like to me you might have talk to someone that you should not have talk too. i have seen that a few times when i was working on cars. I know that here in MI if you take it to a garage to get it worked on they have a book with labor cost that they have to go by to charge you. one thing i would check it what was the labor cost in both fixes

crooks are everywhere you go ,cannot seem to find honest people anymore!if they do that to a man,guess what they will do to a poor woman??its a real shame ,we have a few honest mechanics around here,but its the brakes shops that will skin you alive,seen it happen to women here.you just have to shop around.god bless us all.

A lady at work had front brakes that were metal on metal and took it to a garage that advertises on our local Christian radio station. Their estimate was $1200 !!! Just for the front brakes!! I told her she was being overcharged and another co-worker found a place that fixed them for $400. That was still too much, but she was in a pinch and needed them fixed fast. I had recommended a guy I take my cars to and he would have fixed them for around $200 or less.

Now days you really have to be careful.

took my 77 Mercury twice to an auto mechanic place and neither time did they solve the problem. The first time they tried to charge me for A/C and something else that I didn't have...automatic charges on all newer cars..and they took those off of my bill, but the Merc still was shaking and cutting out at Stop Signs and Red Lights, so took it in again....after all he had advertised on a Christian Station that I listened to...still didn't do any good...so never went back to him and won't recommend him to anyone.

I don't like to continue going back to get problems fixed....they should take care of it after one or two times and if they can't then they should tell you so! Grrrrr....greedy people, especially those calling themselves Christians! Most men would argue or negotiate but not many women will do that...just too much stress to handle since we aren't mechanically minded!
