operating the x terra 50 in tot lots, i noticed this morning, that i couldn't get close up to the swings and things, leaving a grey area, where there were things still hidden! this was later proven by my little friend who i always take with me as a back up.if for some reason i didn't have him along,is there something i could do with the x50 to alleviate this problem? i always operate in all metal ,six to ten sense, volume fifteen,nc 0.standard 7.5 khz 9 inch coil. i have no plans for a smaller coil at this stage . blowfly hh :detecting:

I use the 6' 18.75 DD coil on my XT-50 in all metal at the tot lots and I can find stuff right next to the bars . I also can find very small jewelry as well . It's either bring your little friend all the time or buy one of the 6" coils for your X-Terra .I have 2 other detectors both different brands and I have the small concentric coils made for both of them ( both are good little coils ) but my little Minelab DD has found stuff that I have missed with them .Some guys claim they can find stuff right next to the bars with large coils . I never could . I only use larger coils when I'm sweeping bigger areas and want more depth .

yes george that's one of the two coils i'll eventually get.my little friend is a tesoro compadre with a fixed small coil. blowfly hh

Then your trying to get right next to the steel turn the sens at #1. Sweep slow. If course a 6 inch coil would help. But the stock coils does pretty good next to steel.

working up close to the bars? Thanks, John

Hi John ,
I just ground balance , use all metal , no notch and as long as I'm not getting any noise or interference I leave the sensitivity wherever it's at .

With the X-70 I turn the sens down to a point that I don't get a high tone when swinging in slow (normally about 11) and run up to the poles until I bump them and then come out. If I get a ping on the way out but not on the way in I know it is just the coil leaving the pole. If I am not sure I do it from a little different angle and see if the VID is the same and still no signal on the way out. Most people I have read say to sweep parallel to the object but the straight on works best for me. I have gotten a quarter that was directly under a steel bar. When I swept under it I got a double ping so I tried next to the area and got a single ping so I dug out a handful of mulch and there was the coin. I now have the 570 Vibra-probe and it can be used to quickly check for coins near stuff. I have found it helpful on signals close to the edge of sidewalks when I am not sure if it is the rebar or a good target.

Just my 2 cents worth,
cb
