totlot question

If you are detecting a totlot that has a fabric layer under woodchips ... do you recover coins that are under the fabric layer?

I know its hard to walk away from a good solid signal, but its best to leave them. To get them you need to have a knife on you to cut through the fabric, Its just not a good idea to be in a totlot with a knife, or damaging any sort of underlayment to get a coin. Imagine the disastrous consequences of being observed while engaged in this endeavor! Think of those signals as "reference points" where you can go and occasionally check your detectors settings as well as begin a sweep pattern.

I too have always made it a personal policy not to cut the underlayment no matter how tempting. That is what keeps the weeds from growing up through the chips.

No, don't cut it. That would constitute destroying public property. If the keeper of that tot lot knew you were cutting the weed block, he would be pi$$ed off, then report it.

Think about how many coins you would have to dig to pay off that "destruction of public property" ticket! :stars: (not to mention them putting that totlot off limits to detecting)

Speaking of tot lots. Have you guys noticed more and more the foam lots taking over? One thing I notice is they really don't last very long. I stopped and looked at some of the tot lots with foam and noticed that big chunks of foam missing. I wonder if the city will go back to the wood chips or sand again? Thanks for reading.... Happy Trails....Z

A fast way to get banned for you and maybe all detectorist.

wouldn't want the little darlings to scuff their knees.. Would We ?? ............

" I know its hard to walk away from a good solid signal, but its best to leave them"

This is where good common sense should prevail for everyone. Just accept the fact we can't detect everywhere just because we want too..

Greed for one target can cause a lot of issues for all in my opinion..... Mud I know you respect all private property..Now if we can just get everyone to think of other than their own satisfaction we will all be ahead...

DO NOT DAMAGE PRIVATE PROPERTY !!!!
