when you search the tot lots do you just search around the play ground equipment or do you detect the whole area?

I detect the whole area when time permits. Usually my best finds come from under the swings so I always start there. Other good spots are under the monkey bars and around or under the benches where the Mommies sit to watch. I dig all beeps because even the pulltab signals may be jewelry and it's easy digging in the barkchips. Also, if you use a small coil and reduce your machine's sensitivity you can get very close to the metal playground supports. Some very good finds come from within inches of the supports because other detectorists cannot get close enough with their larger coils. Good luck, have fun, and happy hunting.

yea, the fact that the supports are made of metal makes it hard to tell if it is something or just the support.

Detect the whole thing. I always find coin spills on the outside perimeter of the lot. Watch your step.
I detect the whole thing although i hate the poles. makes my detector sound of as silver. my fav spots are around and under the swings, monkey bars and slides. i have found many a things by the slides. dont neglect the baby swings either....i have found stuff there to.. mommy or daddy is getting baby out of the swing. the baby holds on to parent possibly breaking a chain they are wearing. check it out you will be surprised. i love tot lots...
