Tot Lot Surprise!

Took the kids to a tot lot today not far from home until sundown - and I just happened to have the Deus in my trunk so I could play too

I have heard that this location has yielded some CW-era finds in the past from a few local hunters, but I was only after jewelry today. There were a few other kids playing on the equipment, so I mostly hung around the fringes of the play area looking for shallow surface hits. Dug two zincolns right away in 12 khz, then a few minutes later I got a funny signal that sounded good from one direction, but questionable on a cross-scan.

Got down to about 5" and saw a crusty greenish rim, and thought it was a button at first - turned out to be a 1917 Wheat! Maybe the rumors were true...there had to be something present at this location but all of the aerial maps I've seen show farmland and not much else. Older topo maps show this to be a semi-prominent hilltop, which would have had loads of strategic value 150 or more years ago...definitely a place to research further...

Not long after the Wheat I got a solid "88" which turned out to be a strange silver earring - this satisfied the eternal silver craving for one day at least!

We all had loads of fun and of course, a few people were curious about the detector and what I was doing! Will have to do some further research and see what else turns up - and the kiddos can come too

Nice going! You just never know what you might find at a tot lot. I always seem to do better detecting the grassy areas around them than I do detecting the wood chips. A gold wedding band dropped in the grass is a lot harder to find than one dropped in the wood chips.
