Tot Lot Frustration ....

Darn it! ... Went to the some of the local tot lots in my
community and a bunch of them are putting those rubber mats
around the swings and some of the other playground equipment.

Can't even dig without someone messing that up now!

Oh well .. they won't find a mat big enough to cover the soccer field!

Some of our tot lots have a heavy duty tarp like material buried under the wood chips. These tot lots are detectable but every so far there is something that sets the detector off.

I actually was having the problem you stated until I saw one being constructed and actually went and talked to the people constructing and saw what was setting my detector off in this certain Tott Lot, and it was some drainage pvc pipes that where ran under the tot lot to drain the water, but where fastened to the ground in some places with some metal braces to make it so the PVC would not move around. I actually went back to the tot lot to test out what I had saw and sure enough my Compadre would go off in those precise places.

Now I don't know if all are constructed the same but in this case it's 100% the braces because I can walk to the exact spot they are and they will go off 100% of the time.

Wait till they make the total fake rubber floor tot lot.. yep up here they are starting. Sucks.

Thay put down the weed cloth and use long metal staple pins to hold the cloth in place ,then put down the wood chips and your detector will pick up the pins.
