tot lot description

Are the good tot lots in wealthy neighborhoods? Are they big? My local kids playgrounds have not yielded anything other than a few pennies.

Most of them where I hunt are small. They have either sand or pine bark so
the digging is extremely easy. Good place to get experienced in pinpointing
with a new detector before you hit the fields too. Mine have given me quite a
lot of gold jewelry. Hunt it well and don't skip around. Dig all targets. Everything.
If you hit one and start finding nickels and hardly any other coins you pretty much
know that if there is jewelry in the area it is probably still there. Not just in wealthy
areas either. There are many near the sports fields that I hunt. If the field is busy
I go to the tot lot where I can see the field. Sometimes I do better, jewelry wise,
on the tot lot. Not always though. I would say a tot lot would be a good choice.
Be thorough and dig it all though. Try a few and see what you think and tell us.
I have been doing this for a long time and it works for me. Hope it will work for
you too. Good hunting to you ! Gene

Yeah I've gound gold items and diamond rings n tot lots. They're a real crap shoot. Some of my best finds have come out of playgrounds.

I don't think there is any constant with tot lots. Obviously, ion the more affluent areas your chances go up for better finds. But if you are not the only detectorist around, there may be slim pickings, anyway.
I personally think the better finds are found in tot lots off the beaten path, say in small towns. Private church playgrounds also have yielded well, in my experience. Another great tot lot is found in ethnic or "bad" neighborhoods... but one has to be careful there, for obvious reasons.
