Star and I went to a local grade school Sunday to try our luck. The school dates back to 1877. I've hunted it for 40 years and still usually come home with at least a few wheat cents.
You could see dig marks all over the school yard from at least two people. One was using a screwdriver and one was cutting plugs. They really did a thorough job of hunting it. After a couple hours of hunting and only several pieces of clad to show for it we decided to give up on the school and head for a field just down the road.
I told Star on the way back to the truck that we might a well hit the tot lot and maybe pick up a couple quarters to help pay the gas for this wasted trip. I still had my sensitivity turned up pretty high and almost immediately hit a deep solid signal. I dug through the wood chips down to the soil and about 2 inches under the soil popped out a big old piece of silver. I told Star to turn her sensitivity up and we'll see what's under these wood chips.
Well, 5 pieces of deep silver and a few deep wheat cents later we decided that maybe it wasn't such a bad day after all. Oh yea, we even got enough clad to help pay for our gas.
A few inches of soil had been removed to make room for the wood chips and I guess no one ever tried to see what might be below them. I never tried deep hunting a tot lot before. Maybe I will try this again.
