Tornado just west of San Antonio and may be heading this way.............

This has been a strange week for bad weather...look at all the tornados that hit Oklahoma earlier this week. There were over twenty tornados in a matter of hours in the central part of Oklahoma...the Oklahoma City area. Now we have just been issued a tornado watch with a tornado just west of San Antonio. I just walked out back and the air feels very funny...clouds in the west are very dark. I still remember many years ago when a tornado touched down two miles south of us...we watched it for several minutes before it disappeared. We were living at the old home place at that time. What was strange was we could hear a dull roar, but it did not sound like a train that people claim. I do not like tornados and they scare me. Kelley (Texas) :)

I saw one funnel on the "coast" as a teenager, but it didn't touch down and looking back I'm not even sure if it was a funnel. The air "felt right" though!

I've seen the aftermath of several tornadoes though and I'll be happy if I never have the "experience" of one!

Wishing you a safe and blessed day,

CJ

We are OK here where we live....forty to fifty miles from that area. The weather folks seem to be having a hay day, fanning the fires of excitement and trying to create news. We have heard conflicting reports...some say a tornado is on the ground, others have not seen anything, radar indicates two tornado's, all types of hype at this time. I think that I will go get another cup of coffee and try to talk Debbie into making some rolls or something. I noticed that the dog was sleeping on the couch, muddy feet and all...should have heard her growl at me when I made her get off the couch, kinda funny, guess I pizzed her off. Rainy days are always boring with being stuck indoors. I noticed that most of the regular TV channels have those daily soap opera type programs where the women are running around in their underware and everyone is having an affair with the neighbors...kinda disgusting. I may just bite the bullet and see if there is an old cowboy movie or something on TV...on second thought, scratch that as I really do not enjoy watching TV, better off reading a book and maybe doing some historical research. I have already been warned by Debbie that I best not try to do something to make her yell, said she would not tolerate it today...not much for me to do. Kelley (Texas) :)

suppose to be nice for the next couple days. I got up early and fertilized the lawn and because of the weed killer in it I am hoping it doesn't rain for 24 hours. Over 50 bucks for a bag of that stuff. Stll beats the crap out of Truegreen though

Tornadoes seem to be a fact of life for you folks. Perhaps you could be really good and cover Debbie's flowers so they do not get wet? That would be thoughtful and may confuse her enough that you could go fishing soon;)

of the low areas...always the normal couple of cars being swept away by high water and that sort of thing. Even the old neighborhood stray cat is secure in our garage and last I saw he was sleeping in the box and towel bed that I had set up for him. Everyone around here has named him "Bad Cat" because he is mean and whips up on the other cats living in the area. We put food out for him every evening and he will show up for the free dinner and then leave. During bad weather or cold weather, he shows up and we put him in the garage until the coast is clear. He is an old tom cat and looks like he is going blind in the left eye. No one knows where he came from, probably dumped by someone that no longer wanted him...who knows for sure. I will post a picture of him as the bottom of this Post. Well, time for me to get back to reading a history book about Jeff Davis County, Texas...pizz on trying to watch TV. Kelley (Texas) :)

do here once up in Enfield CT around 1979. Destroyed that place. The rest I've seen on TV and don't want any part of
them. While we were in South Dakota, at a stop called Wall's Drug, they let the rv rigs stay in a parking area at night as its in the middle of no where. Around 1:00am the tornado alarm when off or thats what they said it was. Also set off a NOOA warning on our CB set. Pitch black, no idea where to go anyhow, so we stayed put with another couple. Most every one else left. Never got it, just a lot of lighting and down pours. Kinda of made the hair on my neck stand up. Never did hear if it hit anywhere. We moved on the next day
to Gillette, Wyoming to see the new Buffalo Bill Museum setup. Really interesting place.... The rest of the time out there we kind of kept and eye out for them and the CB weather alert on all the time but never got another one...

Good luck out there. I would think folks would have big concrete septic tanks burried in the ground or in the basement with enough room for the family to get in there and close steel door from inside till it was over......I know I would, not much one can do those things but go deep or be gone......

rough...especially when you really had no place to seek shelter. When I was a boy, everywhere you went you saw storm cellars in back yards, but not now days. One reason a tornado is so dangerous is that you are not usually given much warning, a few minutes at most. George, I know you have been extremely busy lately and I do appreciate you taking the time to post a response, thank you! Kelley (Texas) :)

the yard work needing to be done. I am fixin to start on our yard, but I don't need any weed killer, but I do need insect killer. The grub worms did a lot of damage this year. They may be good fishing bait, but they sure tear up your yard. I bet you are enjoying the new deck that you built. Please have a great day! Kelley (Texas) :)

the humming birds, Baltimore Orioles, red breasted grosebeak and goldfinches, among others. The deer are in right now. Life is good. At least at this exact moment.

I sent you a link to my outside camera. Look in it and you will see at least three deer right now

We never did see those two tornado's that the weather folks were talking about...possibly just hype on their part to create some news. Someone told me that they shut down old Hwy. 90 somewhere near Hondo because a two foot wall of water came down some creek and washed over the highway...don't know how long it was shut down. We got 4" of rain in our rain gauge, and then got another 2" last night. Kelley (Texas) :)

which is a good thing! After I found out they were forty or fifty miles away, I did not pay them much mind. I just read where Bayrat was driving in that heavy rain...said he was down to 10 mph in some spots. Kelley (Texas) :)

I've driven in some of those Texas "gully washers" and it is no picnic! There is usually no way to "wait it out" as it can go on for hours and you dare not stop on the road as there are people who will still be driving. You never know what you might run into including a washed out road or deeper water that your car can handle or someone that has stopped on the road!!

The last time I drove in such a "frog choker" it was for maybe thirty miles of back roads from Ganado, Texas to my families house in Francitas. I knew the roads from years of driving them, but hadn't been on them in maybe fifteen years! My wife could never figure out how I found my way home, but I knew where each intersection was and only had to watch out for the other drivers, farm equipment and livestock!

Not a fun experience,

CJ
