Tornado 8"Coil

Member
I have been using a Detech 13"Ultimate coil on my Sovereign GT on the beach for the past 18 months & I love it.
I have just acquired a second GT and it came with a spare coil , a Tornado 8"
Anyone have any experience with these coils on the beach.

Thanks ...

On my machine it works the same as the 10 inch coil but a little bit smaller. Easier to pin point. Very good coil. I use the Nel 13x12 Tornado coil on the beach as well.

I only use the small coil in trashy areas on the dirt. You will lose some depth with the small coil on the beach as well as losing coverage. A lot more work to cover an area.

If you are using it in the water then it will be easier to swing due to the reduced resistance.

The 800, maybe not the best for dry but if your looking for easy to swing and light weight, a good choice. It will be hard to find anything that can match the ULT13

It's a horrible coil, let me know if you want
to sell it!

Best used in those wash up trashy areas that most hunter avoid. Kind of like a PI .....you have to be willing to work the area. Also, its 7 1/4" not 8....... then deeper targets will ID farther back on the coil........ at depth you are likely using a 6" coil. It MAY ID smaller targets more easily. Note...... ML stopped making the 800 for the Xcal. Id say because most of us found the standard is hard to beat. I like the 13" Joe for coverage.......its a killer deep coil in the wet and dry sand. But like most large coils the standard coil quickly catches up in or near the salt water. I wouldnt use that coil all the time......... but its a good coil to have around if you know your beaches. Because much of your competition WILL be willing to pass a lot of gold up for coverage looking for the larger targets.

I have had excellent results in trashy parks with the 800 Tornado.Very good depth, sensitivity can be set to the max in most ground conditions, sweep speed can be quicker and excellent target separation.I always keep a small Tornado coil in my arsenal.
