topo zone - Terrserver

When I take a reading on my etrex, I can go to topo zone put my numbers in and I am good to go. But when I go to terra server if I put my numbers in I get a error, Are the GPS reading different that want you need for Terra server? Can anyone help?
Thanks Greg

Topozone and Terraserver allow you to select the co-ordinate format in which to input the data. You should chose the same format as your eTrex is set to display / use. You also have to set a common datum.
You can select datum in eTrex and in Topozone. Terraserver is using (I think) WGS84 so you have to set the other two to use the same.
If you have all three set to use the same format and datum, inputing the same "numbers" should result in the same position.
If you still have trouble, please post the co-ordinates you are trying to input.

I get the same problem with TerraClient and my Etrex! Testing here at the house, I of course get a reading that is consistent with the Etrex. Then when I look up my house (or whatever location, because this is why I am writing) and see the coordinates of the location on TerraClient, they are not the same as what my Etrex shows.. And it's not just a few hundred feet. It is miles away. So I wonder what is going on too. What I want to do is find a spot and see the big picture on TerraClient, using coordinates. But all I can do is follow roads and use my eyes because the coordinates do not match between the two systems. I am also new at GPS, but I do have the WGS84 datum running on this. I also wonder how to synchronize. Randy

The reason for the diff is more than likely the co-ordinate format.
You have to be mindful that in both systems you are using the same format or properly convert between the formats. It's very common no mistake decimal degrees for minutes or seconds or, decimal minutes for seconds or other way and whichever way around. Errors like this may easily result in miles.

I had the coordinate format wrong just as you suspected Andrew. This must have been also why I tried to put min and seconds It should be hddd.ddddd on the unit. I did a google search and found this:

It worked for me! Randy
