Top of the line Detector

Which top of the line detector would you purchase and why not including the Whites Spectra V3 since I already have it.
The reason for this question is I plan on buying another detector in the near future and would like some advise.

If you have several coils for this machine, the logical choice in my opinion is either the MXT, MXT PRO, or the M6 as they can all use the same coils. If you're thinking of lighter, turn on and go, less expensive machines, then maybe a Tesoro or one of the Whites Prizm series. I have an MXT, had a Prizm and have several Tesoros and they've all been decent, usable machines.

MY choice would be a Teknetics T2 LtD but they are hard to get a hold of since First Texas can't make them fast enough to keep the dealers in stock so you have to back order them.

I used to have a regular (not LtD) T2 but I sold it when the prices went crazy last winter and got 3 times what I paid for it. I bought a DFX and traded a machine for a Fisher F75 but I still like the T2 the best of the bunch. It is a fantastic relic machine and that is mostly what I do. If you are a salt water beach hunter than you should choose something else as it isn't really a good beach machine. I don't go coin hunting much but people say it is a great coin shooter since it has such a fast response time and great target separation.

I would suggest a totally different machine, which will be a delight after using your bulky and overcomplicated Spectra V3: Tesoro Tejon.

Is there something that you don't like about the V3 or are you just looking for a little variety?

The Tejon is a little long in the tooth now but still has a lot going for it. Light weight, great depth, best warranty. If you would still like the crutch of a meter but the advantage of being able to operate very successfully without, then the T2 does offer a great deal in a very lightweight package. The T2 LTD is even better as mentioned below but you have to find one.Especially good if you want to detect longer grass/stubble etc as it still delivers great depth even when your forced to operate with the coil quite high above the ground.

Two not mentioned before are the Golden Mask 3 which comes in at a very good price and the Minelab Musketeer Advantage Pro. Always underated machines due to Minelabs pushing multifrequency and in the U.K. at least there's been a large drop in price. We did pay

Top of the line machines are grossly overplayed.

Sure, they work as well as advertised but are they really necessary?

If you specialize in hunting silver in 100 year old parks and around colonial houses you very well may need one.

If you prefer to hunt schools, playgrounds and modern type parks a thousand buck plus machine is a bit of overkill.

I guess it all comes down to what you want to hunt with that machine.

I guess I should have stated what type of hunting I do prior to posting the first message.
I hunt old school yards, old logging towns that are gone now, beaches, private yards, and anywhere there might have been a gathering of people present or past.
To answer mrwilburino's question; I really like the V3 it is an awesome machine, a little over my head at times, but for the most part I really enjoy all the features and information I get from using it. I just wanted a little more "Variety".
As BarberBill stated; The logical choice would be another Whites Machine simply because of all the spare or extra coils I have for the V3.
I guess I just want to try a different brand and see the difference of the 2 first hand.

If you REALLY like the Spectra V3 you ought to consider an MXT or MXT Pro. I would grab the MXT Pro, of the two, and the coils will interchange with the V3.

The other two I'd suggest include the Teknetics T[sup]2[/sup] and, quite honestly, probably the Teknetics Omega 8000. Why the Omega 8000? because for the invested dollar value it is one of the best multi-purpose detectors available. If it wasn't, I wouldn't own and use one. The Omega 3-coil 'package' has a suggested retail of only $799, yet you get the stock 10" elliptical concentric coil as well as the 11" Double-D and the 5" round Double-D coils.

This would make a good compliment to use with your Spectra V3 and, quite honestly, I know several who have opted to go with the MXT or Omega rather than their V3. Try one and odds are you'll like it.

Highly suggest you get a T2. It is deep, stable, and light weight. I have not owned an 8000 yet..but from all I read and with the recommendation of Monte it must be awesome. The T2 is the best coin detector I have ever used.

monte!..i noticed you did not include the standard f-75 as one of your top picks!
just curious as to the reason(s) why!...thanks!

I suggested the T2 in my first post and would still go for it over the MXT as I feel it has the edge in performance for coinhunting and to get the best from the Whites I would need to by a double D coil which increases the price of the package.
What has to be watched for is what T2 you get. The early ones did have poor build quality. This improved over time so you had a good/reliable machine in the version 6.0. Depth did not match that of the F75 but that now seems to have changed with the 6.5 so thats the one to go for. I was talking to someone the other day and they had just received their brand new T2 but the version was 6.0. If your paying new prices then might as well have the lastest version.

For me, the only detector to buy would be the MXT Pro, for the simple reasons of coil and battery compatibility, ease of use and the depth would be very similar to the V and the company behind the sale.

a model that I have used all that much. I know there's the similarity to the teknetics T2, but for me, the T2 is the one that I used the most. Why? Because I like a nice, broad-range low-end Discrimination adjustment and the T2 had it at the time I was "shopping."

I was then urged, by a couple of dealer friends, to give the Omega a try. I know there are similarities to the Fisher F5, for example, but there are differences, too. I do not like models with push-in connectors since I favor those that have screw-on connectors. Also, I found the Omega's physical packaging to be more appealing, to me, since I don't like gold-colored rods as much or bulkier housings. Once I put an Omega to use I was quickly impressed and, for the dollar and comparing field performance, I parted with most other detectors I had and settled on the Omega to compliment my T2. Actually, I use the Omega much more often.

I am sure the F75 will appeal to many, but I hope my simple answer took care of why I favor the Omega and T2 models as well as the White's MXT and MXT Pro.

After reading over all the posts and downloading the manual and reviewing it, I think the Omega 8000 is the next detector for me. From what I can tell by the reading of the manual it is a whole lots simpler to operate than the V3.
Also the price of the machine is a big plus as well, it seems to be a great machine with lots of features at a very affordable price.
Now all I have to do is sweet talk the wife!!

thanks monte!..hope your feelin' "crackers" real soon!
