Tools?

So, I recently purchased a Garrett AT Gold, and I am looking for some advice on which tools or accessories are your favorite or essential. I have a 5 day old baby, so I don't want to waste a bunch of $$ on unnecessary accessories. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I plan on doing parks/schools/ect until the baby gets a bit older, then I'll move onto nugget detecting. Thanks again!

Here is some ideas of tools that do a good job for me. Up until the first of this year I used the tools pictured with the leather tool pouch, now I use the green handled digger with V notch area sharpened and one of my probes, most of the time that would be the ice pick. I also use the Garrett Pro pointer all the time.

That green tool looks like the leatherman of digging! Where did you pick that baby up at? Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. Greatly appreciated! *edit* I had a dream I bought the pro pointer last night and my wife was peeved! Haha definately on my list though!

I have an expensive suggestion, but it is worth the cost: Pro Pointer. I won't hunt without it. Cheap wise a screwdriver for popping coins. I like that method a lot. An inexpensive pouch is quite handy. I also bring my dog. She finds nothing of value but does a great job of keeping an eye out for snakes, 4-legged critters, and 2-legged ones, too.

I got it at Tractor Supply, but don't forget to sharpen that V notch in front edge, that is the key to making this a tool for coin hunting. As for a pinpointer just to get by with until the time is right for a Garrett Pro pointer. I would go for the Cen-Tech at Harbor Fright for under $20. Maybe if you get a bunch of information on the Garrett and leave it around where the wife will find it, you may get one for Christmas or a birthday.
I started off with a Cen-Tech and they work pretty good, but they don't like cold weather. One of my brothers still uses one.

Note the digger picture is before I sharpened the V notch area. With that V notch area shapened and that saw cut edge on the digger it will take care of most of the root problems.

Ill check out tractor supply online and see what I can find. It's been a relatively cold summer here in Alaska, and I plan on doing alot of nugget detecting early winter, winter, and late winter. I have a crazy buddy who likes to dig holes in the snow and dredge all winter long. I'll most likely hold out for the Pro Pointer for that reason. I think in the meantime ill grab a screwdriver, and a drywall saw that I already own. I guess I could also break out the dremel, and engrave some inch lines on it. Thanks for the pictures, they give me great ideas to McGuyver (spelling?), some tools! And thank you to all who responded! Happy hunting

Leasche digger, pro pointer and any probe that works for you.

Remember to leave the place nicer than you found it and cart away all the junk you find.

WV, I'm with you. I bought a similar looking garden tool in Marshall's of all places. It has a huge yellow handle and is a pleasure to use. It was on sale for $5. I've since bought another as a backup but haven't needed it. This baby has an 8 inch blade and with the huge handle easily sticks up to the hilt into all but the driest clay. It easily pries out a the sod hinge. The serrated edge is great for cutting roots but dulls easily - it is made in China. But for $5 you can't go wrong.
