Having not frequented the forums for some time I find the same old threads! Gb or no Gb, Deleon or Cortes, what detector will detect a bb at 22' (really absurd).
Several years ago when I got back into detecting a local dealer suggested I buy a silver umax when I was shopping for a high end detector. As my wife was present and she was having trouble understanding waisting several hundred dollars when the dealer said the silver was best, I bought the silver. With no Gb no TID it remains my most used detector. It stays in my truck all the time.
I went back a short time later and got a White XLT which was my only used detector for the next year or so. The White greatly improved my treasure hunting, I only dug good targets, no trash, and missed no good targets. Right!
Then the awakening! MY son and I went detecting together. He used the GOOD detector and I used the CRUMMY old silver. I dug trash but I also dug good stuff that he white said was no good, specifically several Indian head cents. Maybe this TID was not all it was meant to be.
Back to the store and a Tejon came home Gb and all. Now I dig deeper holes and find lots more stuff, wrong, a little more stuff but not a lot more stuff, but a lot more holes.
I then for some unknown reason bought a Deleon, Why? the previous TID had let me down, Gb had proved deeper. Dumb purchase, right? Wrong! I also got a clean sweep coil for the DeLeon. This combination is the only detector that I have that has more than paid for itself in modern coinage, and has never been to a beach.
The secrete is TOOLS of the TRADE. The old silver is a grab it when I have a few minutes to burn. The Tejon is used for hunting old sites. The Deleon is for sports fields where I only dig 95's to minimize digging. The white is now seldom used.
To close would you use a large impact wrench to remove a small wing nut, not likely! Each type of detector has its place. As I am mobility limited the deep seeking Gb machines are not very useful while the TID no GB Deleon is perfect for using on well manicured sports fields where I can easily maneuver. I have gone over several fields with Dejon after hunting same with Deleon and missed items were negligible.
p.s. who uses a backhoe for a recovery tool?
