Now listen some time back i was detecting out in the farm Field and i found a broken pitchfork tiyn, i kept it just because , Well the other day i was detecting at a rodeo pen and it was hard packed gravel clay , i could not get thru it with my predator shovel or the Wilcox digger the best thing was the lesh knife, which did really well , and i think it is because it has less surface area to hold it up so i went back and fashioned my pitch fork tine into a tool that digs thru hard packed gravel and clay like butter its high carbon steel and has the least surface area so it really punches into hard ground

Yes, that is exactly right. Too large a surface area on the edge of a digging tool keeps it from fitting between individual pieces of gravel and it gets held up because its surface is in contact with several or more pieces of gravel at the same time, thus, no pentration. Therefore, a good gravel tool is more like a pick.

Good job, Gunnar.

man killer!..(lol!)

Gunnar, did you forget that a screw driver is as good, stronger too.

Well that sucks!!!---I was thinking I might try one out if I could find the larger version than the one pictured (jackhammer, that is)! ----All things considered--I agree with the other gentleman--a medium length shank screwdriver & you can sharpen the point as needed.---Those buggars are STRONG to!--------Del
