took the xterra 50 and the 6 in dd hf coil back to a spot and learned something

I went back to my vacant lot in town to learn more about the 6 in dd coil and decided to listen carefully and dig every signal with a solid signal. What I noticed was , as I swept the coil over a target if it broke up on the edge and then got a clear signal in the middle and then another broken edge on the other side, it was always a junk target , usally a bottle cap , pulltab or some sort of foil. These would always show a vdi in the 20's, the same range rings and some jewlery falls into. The give away on it being trash tho was the broken edges on each side. I took out a hand full of rings before I had left and checked the vdi on all different sizes and on my gold classring and a 14k gold wedding band. I got a consistent 27 vdi on the rings. I have come to the opinion that you have to just get out there , stick with one machine and learn it. They are all different, each coil has its own characteristics. I do love the little xterra 50 and small coil, can swing it all day, with all the confidence in the world that if I do my part there is nothing safe from it in the ground.

Canadian coins respond just like many trash targets. Have better luck digging it all. Just more to dig with the 6" hf DD with more clarity than the stock coil. :rage:

Mitwest56,

I used the 6" dd for the first time yesterday. It does work well and, I believe it mad my depth reading for accurate. Sometime this week I will try mine for ugget hunting.
