Took the XT70 for a ride today.

We got a cup of Java and rode around looking at the little Bare Brown spots in town. Temps were up in the 50s. We both got some needed fresh air and can't wait till the ground thaws.
Oh, sorry. No finds to show yet. 60s tomorrow, won't be long. I know my XT loved getting out for the first time this year. He promised me something special on our first real hunt this spring:jump:

Took my XT70 out as well, hit it big time with a Canadian 1973 penny. It was down about 3" and the ground was frozen for 1-1/2" of that. Lots of targets in the backyard but most at 4" plus. I guess I'll wait a bit longer to try out back again.

This makes $.06 so far since I've had the detector!

G'day Bob. Have you thought about detecting some of the toboggan hills in your area. Sure would beat trying to dig through frozen ground. It should be as easy as beach hunting minus a few degrees eta.

I am hung up on old treasures/coins/artifacts. I have no desire to hunt clad.
Before this starts a war let me explain. Some parts of the country all you can do is schools and parks. There is nothing wrong with that but where I am located I dig Large cents like most others dig Wheaties. I am spoiled. If I were to put all the clad I dug for the year in a coffee can it would give me about $50 for the entire season. Done it so I know. I now use it for coffee money as I find it.
My nose is not in the air, my thrill is finding the old stuff and I can do it on a daily bases.

I sure am glad I live in a warmer environment Bob. I guy would go plum stir crazy, cooped up for that long.
I read about John Bortcher (from Edmonton, on the Garrett forum)on going out in minus 20 degrees to detect in such places. I thought he was nuts at first, but when you consider being cooped up for that long, I can understand it. He puts a little hand warmer in with his battery pack so that the detector can work properly though.
I guess that hunting like that, is like going beach detecting minus the the pretty girls.

Hi Bob,

It could be worse, think about the people who live in the snow belt along the Great Lakes. A guy can put up with 12 to 16 inches of snow. Although it's miserable to get this time of the year, when one has spring fever. Always enjoy reading posts.
