Took the Surf PI Dual Field for a quick spin last night...

was the pinpointing any better compared to the PRO .....and is the coil weighted? for surf hunting........ I believe whites is not offering the choice between the weighted coil and non-weighted as with the PRO version

Can you tell us a little more, or are you field testing ??

The coil is not weighted. However, because of the design its not as boyant as the unweighted 950. I found the depth to be exceptional and pinpointing was no problem. You won't be disappointed.

Well, I'm user testing, hehehe. Signals that would have been iffy with the Surf PI rang in loud and clear due to the adjustable sensitivity. I like the fact that the pulse delay has a "click" preset position like an on/off switch. I can't remember the performance of the PI Pro to compare. I can say that it offers the best of both worlds with the addition of the large coil which allows you to cover alot more ground. I got a small earring stud that rang in loud and clear that would have been a weak signal with the Surf Pi (the purple one) and I doubt if I would have even heard it with my Excalibur. Time will tell. You can't go wrong with this one.

does the unit discriminate?.

No. Dual field means that you are basically running two size coils at once. The outer 12" coil and an inner 6" coil. It's still a PI machine but you get increased depth and better pinpointing capability as well as better sensitivity to smaller objects due to the coil design. Visit the White's website to learn more.

No and Yes. It doesn't discriminate like a standard VLF. However, you can adjust the Pulse Delay (or timing) to differentiate between small ferous and non-ferous items. However, you will take a chance on knocking out some of the smaller gold items. This is strickly a water unit (in my opinion) and when you are in the water target separation is greater and therefor discrimination isn't really necessary. You want to dig everything, especially if your going for the gold. If you want a discriminating PI you need to consider the TDI. However, its not waterproof.

i just got my PI PRO a few weeks ago, love it... you think it wold be worth getting this one too? thoughts?

I bought one last Thursday. Thanks Lenny! OneStopMetalDetectors, Toms River, NJ. Lenny stated it was the last one in the warehouse. They are selling quick. Works super easy right out of the box. :twodetecting:

Well...I've had both the PI Pro and the PI Plus. I liked the Pro because of the Gain adjustment, I liked the Plus because of the Pulse Delay adjustment. Two different machines, both worked well. Now, I have one machine that offers what I like independantly about the two. I can crank up the gain for better sensitivity and depth and I can adjust the delay to eliminate hair pins. Add the 12" coil to cover more area and you can't go wrong. The design of the new coil is also like having two coils in one. The outer coil for coverage and depth and the inner coil for smaller objects and pinpointing.
