Took the Racer 2 on its Maiden Voyage.

I received my Racer 2 on Monday and today Monte and I had a chance to hit an old spot. Monte started off the day with a nice 1907 IH, he then got a GF 5 cents Trade Token from Harts Place. Then he snagged a nice pendent with a leaf design in the middle.

At this point I found a few artifacts and doodads and was starting to get concerned about my new Racer 2. Finally I found a early teens wheatie ( couldn't read last # in the date) then a nice 1911 Wheatie and a "Bull Durham" pendent along with the other doodads. Was feeling a little better. because of the amount of iron/trash present at this site I used the "oor" coil.

We then drove to a second sight and not having near the iron as the first site, i tried the new 7x11 coil for a bit, wasn't long , got a nice high tone, dug down with my digger several inches and out pops a nice 1898s Barber Half dollar. That gets the blood flowing, a little more so then a crusty wheatie lol and then about 10 mins later another high tone. Snagged a nice " Good For One Drink" Token from OK Saloon Wallua, Wash.

Well gotta say, the Racer 2 is a keeper. didn't hit any ice bergs on the maiden voyage. It was a good/fun day for Monte and I and we hope to get back out there soon.

My settings were: 3 tone, Gain 85, ID Filter 3, Notch Filter N/A, Iron Audio 2, Tone break at 10 & 65 ( at Montes suggestion I lowered the high tone break to 65, that way it will put most types of pennies into the High tone.)

So far this year Gregg and/or I have hunted a POW camp; CCC then POW camp; old ghost town; two gold mining town sites (until we were chased off by high winds and cold from an approaching storm); and "The House Around the Hill" that the old character told me about. We haven't traveled outside of Oregon & Idaho.

I have been using the Makro Racer 2 the majority of the time in the old town sites, and the coming Nokta FORS Relic or FORS Gold + at some sites as well. Even "breaking in" the Gold Racer so it will learn how to hunt those old, often littered town sites, but the bulk of the hunts have been with the Racer 2 at this particular old ghost town. We've made five trips out there so far and I've only been skunked once, Going to try and keep my streak going tomorrow (Saturday) starting out at the closest location (a ghost town) and then we might travel on over to the "House Around the Hill" location and see what might turn up.

On the Racer 2 I have been using the 'OOR' coil but have the round, almost 5½" DD coil I've been using. As for Trade Tokens, we have had a pretty good year so far as we have each found several, and the A.H. Ash ... O.K. Saloon ... GF One Drink trade token Gregg found was from Walula, Wash., but was from an Oregon location. I haven't found a workable location in Washington yet, or had any tips. I wouldn't mind some good ideas for some place closer to you for a mid-October to mid-November Welcome-to-Hunt Outing, so if you have suggestions, shoot me an e-mail.

I hope you can make it to the WTHO in May in Nevada,

Monte

No need to say thank you. Making good detectors is our job and responsibility.
On the other hand, choosing our product over others is an option for you so we thank you for choosing us!

Monte,
I'm sure trying to make the May outing. I've been totally impressed with the Racer 2 in park hunting. Can't wait to get it out t a ghost town. The whole idea behind a small coil is it's size Duh! not sure why the R2 small coil is larger than the OOR but I've got the 51/2" from the R2 and a couple of OOR coils. I'll have to see which I prefer, although they are so close in size I doubt I'll be able to tell a difference. The New 5 1/2" coil seems bigger out there on the end of the rod.

I was looking forward to your trip report, great hunting Gregg and Monte!

That aluminum token came out great, the ones I find are usually corroded beyond recognition. Man a Barber half, yep that gets the blood moving!

I think the R2 iron audio @ 2 is perfect. I'll have to try the tone break settings Monte suggested, similar to the "old coins" program like on the Fisher CZ-3D and CZ-70, or 3H on the F75, I like that

I think the R2 is a keeper, can't wait to get out with it again.

HH,
Brian

Hi Brian,
Seen your post this morning as I was rushing out the door to meet Monte to go detect a site. And yes most my alum. tokens are pretty rough. I did manage to find a couple more alum. tokens today and they to were in nice shape as well. Maybe the Racer 2 is so good it only accepts nice condition items and rejects the rest lol. Actually though in parts of this site the soil is different. I've noticed to on a IH penny and a V nickel that I found in the same area, also came out of the ground looking very nice.

Here is a pic after I got home and cleaned them up a bit. Gotta say, the Racer 2 doesn't disappoint. Also found some ornate hair piece thing and a nice little tag.

Monte did get a nice pendent made of Silver. Forgot to get a pic of it.

Those tokens are nice  Like the ornate hair piece thingy too, you guys are on to a good site!

I'll try your tone adjustment the next time I get out. I'm finding the disc @ 2 and iron audio @ 2 to be a winning combo, but haven't played with the tone adjustments yet.

hh,
Brian

Dang Gregg already killing it with the R2, congrats on the amazing finds. Mine shows up tomorrow, took the day off. Ill be patiently waiting by the window watching for the fedex dude:detecting:
