took the plunge

Thanks to everyone for their honest opinions of the CTX and with that help I took the plunge yesterday and bought the CTX. A big thanks to Bart, at Big Boys Hobbies, for a smooth purchase. Got the CTX assembled last night (did anyone else have trouble getting the coil cable up through the lower stem?), charged the batteries and played with the audio a bit. Liking what I see so far.

Any advice for a CTX newbie moving over from the E-Trac? Thanks,

Ken

That's Great!! I just received mine from Bart @ Big Boys Hobbies Yesterday (awesome person to deal with!!!). I also was putting mine together last night and did not have any issues getting the cable through the lower stem it seemed pretty stiff. Mine also had a little plastic piece on the end to maybe keep it more ridged? I left it on. Good Luck with yours!!

Congrats on your upgrade Ken - I moved from an E-Trac to the CTX the first day they went for sale - and never unhappy about my decision - I love 'er.

Since you are already familiar with the E-Trac's functions, then a lot of what you have available to you on the CTX will be familiar - but - there is a lot of new stuff as well! Read the manual, install the Exchange 2 program on your PC and watch some of the excellent videos available - and you should be good to go. I run a 50-tone (high trash) mode that is close to what I ran on my E-Trac and a 4-Tone (ferrous-coin) combined mode - and that's about it. Good luck!

The best of advice is don't compare it to an Etrac. It's an entirely different beast. At first, you'll probably dig a bunch of rusty nail you could swear were good targets but don't let that discourage you. Once you get a handle on it you'll dig fewer nails and more keepers.
